Hey, my boyfriend just got an iguana. We do not know much about these little fellows yet so maybe you could help us. He is very young so not yet tame of course. He really does not like us to try to pick him up but I know that is the only way to get them tame. Do you have any suggestions of how we can get him used to us so he will want to be around us? So far he has ran away twice after us picking him up. Meaning jumping off of our arm and making us chase him around the room, where in both instances he turned brown. I suppose all of this is normal for young iguanas, but is there something we can do to help the process and keep him calm?

Hello I am a pre-veterinary student. I love iguanas and have a blind female.. I have also worked with many other special needs reptiles... Currently I do pet assisted therapy with my reptiles..
Feel free to drop me a messege any time.

make sure you don't make quick movements and loud noises

Quick movements are not the issue.. as she can not see and does not seem to notice fast movements... On the other hand it is important for me at least to be loud.. she needs to hear your voice and I often think she is hearing impaired too..
We do well... she is very affectionate and suprisingly calm for being blind.

thats really cool that you work with special needs animals. Its something I would really love to do. I think it is really wonderful that you are able to help those animals that most people would have ignored. Especially reptiles, since they are so missunderstood by some anyways.

we own an Iguana. We just got him about 3 weeks ago. He is 4 years old and the people who owned him abused him. So right now he is not very frendly. Any advice on how to help him would be greatly appreciated.

I've got a 9 (approx) year old male who is 17"SVL and about 4' 5" with the tail. We got him from the shelter when he was about 5, and he hadn't been very well taken care of. He is missing a foot, so hes very clumsy, but he can be very sweet. I <3 my iggy :)

My iguana is being a real big B*TCH latley. She does this really odd thing like getting really skinny but long like a fish. And moving here head up and down with her dulap sticking right out. I have it on tape too if ur not sure what i mean. She used to do it everyone in a while when we put her up to the mirror or she would see herself. Now she is doing it everytime we walk up to her. And she tryes to bite you. She was getting really good their for a little while, were still trying to tame her she is only a year old. But if anyone knows something or someone that can help me out please do so. I have no one else to ask.
Thanks
-Lisa
