Finally the time has come. This is just an amazing coincidence.. but I woke up, rolled over, and saw Tiki laying on her side hyperventilating, so I went to go see what was wrong, and she rolled onto her back in a ball, and pulled out the first pups :D:D:D It amazing I woke up at the perfect time to see it! So far only one pup is out and its been about six minutes! I'm so excited and I'm going to go watch some more! I'll keep you all updated!

That is so exciting. You must have sensed something was happening subconsiously so you woke up.

Yay!! Congratulations!!! I know how excited you must be! You've got to find a digital camera so you can show us all pictures! :D What colors did you say you bred? It seems like you said agouti and some gray color (Sapphire, Dove, or Lilac) but I don't remember for sure.... Hope all your babies are nice and healthy! Keep us updated!
I woke up to 2 of my gerbils loose.lol.... One of them ran right up to me but the other is still hiding.....

Congratulations...
Try not to distract her though, maybe pictures using the zoom lense and no flash from across the room.

So far it looks like there is 6 pups. I got close to the tank and backed off, just to count them. It seems that one has light eyes, and the rest have dark eyes. I can't wait to get pics!

I know there are a lot of mixed opinions about gerbil pups, but I handled mine just hours after they were born, and I know a lot of other people on here do it too, with no problems. Every gerbil is different but mine didn't seem to mind at all that I watched her giving birth, and took lots of pictures with flash. Taking pictures from across the room isn't going to show anything exciting.

I wish I had a camera to take the pictures.. oh well you all know what pups look like! There are six pups still, and it seems that two may be light eyed, and the remaing four dark eyed! I can't wait to see what colors they all are! Hopefully they all have their dads personality, he's a really sweet gerbil!

So it looks like there are no other pups.. still six! They are all so small.. smaller than I remember the last litter being. I can't wait for them to grow fuzz so I can see what colors they all are!

That's what I thought about Dottie's last litter. I couldn't remember the first ones being so small! But I actually had a really tiny runt, who only lived for about 2 days. He was about half the size of the rest, but they were all the length of a quarter! They're so tiny at first, but then they grow so fast!
I hope you can get ahold of a camera so we can see some pics! Can you tell if any are spotted or dark or light? With dottie's, I could see the spotting as as soon as they were born. But there were 2 blacks, and 1 black spotted. So, it was easy.

Well, all of the pups are alive and well. Tiki doesn't like to nest them all together.. I had to put two pups back in the nest that she left in her other nest.. she probably just didn't get around to moving them.

Congrats!! They've come at last, I'm glad you got to see Tiki give birth- and you probably have some argentes, they're a beautiful color. Can't wait to see some pictures!!

I hope there are argentes! I see that two are light eyed.. at least I think! One also has a darker pigment than the rest! I hope that there may be some surprise colors thrown in there too.

Congrats! And lucky you to be able to see them born. I plan to stake out by the tank around the days when the gerbils should have their second litters.
My hamster delivered a day (or night actually) early so I wan't able to watch her either.

Can you tell any colors yet? :D They should have a good amount of fuzz by now.

Actually, no, lol.
I can tell that two are light colored, with light eyes, and four are dark eyed with dark colors, and that 3 of the dark ones are spotted (can't tell with the lighter ones.)
I was checking on them earliear and holding them, and if my eyes aren't fooling me the light ones look just a little bit golden. I can't tell what the dark colored ones are yet, but one is much lighter thant he rest. I can't wait until they are fully furred.

I just re-checked on them.. and I was way wrong!
The two light ones ARE spotted! And three of the dark ones are spotted.. that means there is one gerbil that is not spotted! Weird..

Cool! Spotted is always neat :D I'd guess your light "golden" ones will probably be DEH's. But I could be totally wrong..... If the tail and nose and ears start darkening, they're most likely DEH's. Oh, but you said they have light eyes.... so that wouldn't work.... lol...Nevermind that theory. I look forward to some updates though! :D

i came home from my july 3rd barbecue to find my gerbie had 5 pups safe in a corner...pretty cool since her first litter was only 3....funny i wanted to see her give birth but the one day of the long weekend i wasnt home was the day she did, and both times she has had litters she had them both on sunday afternoons - coincidence

Four females and two males. One male is the argente and the other is the solid agouti. All three spotted agoutis are female, and one of the spotted argentes.
What're the chances that 5 are spotted, and 1 isn't? Lol, I was expecting like.. 3 spotteds! lol.
