I have a question.:dollar: about how much does an average turtle cost? what about different species? please post here and e-mail imagine7154@snail-mail.net. I need this answer very soon, I might be getting a turtle in a few weeks and need to see how much other stuff I can buy.

It deffinatley depends on what sort of turtle you buy. My Russians were $70.00,not including all of the other stuff I had to buy such as UV lights and equipment to make the outdoor pen. Then there's the cost of food,so most turtles aren't cheap, and there's not a "set" cost for turtles. If you can tell what kinds are available in your area I'm sure lots of people can help you and go into better detail.:agree:

Turtles can be very expensive, and don't get me started on vet bills they can ranged around 45$ just for a check up then about 20$ for a fecal check and 20$ for deworming and if he's sick he could ended up costing you what a sick dog or cat does. You also need to provide him with the proper housing and food and lighting, every month new bedding and dont forget you need to have a huge enclosure for them and outdoors is best. they love the sunshine. Please think about it before you get a turt or tort and also remember theyre long term pets they could end up outliving you.

Turtles & tortoises can range from $3.00 to thousands of dollars. They're not a throw away pet. Please do some research on them, it will cost you hundreds for the equipment and other misc. items.

Please don't go out and get a tortoise or turtle just because you want one, if you have a money problem. You will soon find that you cannot keep the little fella correctly. As David says the equipment can run into a lot of money and if you try to cut corners by ommitting the uv light and basking lamps for example you will soon have a very sick little guy. think again please and assess your situation before buying.

My suggestion to you is to find out exactally what breed you are thinking about getting then reserch or ask about a specific breed.
some torts get very big, some stay small. weater turtle or box?
what the animal needs depends on size and breed. but no turle or tort is cheap to keep.

This is absolutely true and it is worth remembering that there are no short cuts either. Whereas a dog or cat may be OK in a small house with a small garden a turtle/tortoise needs the optimum condition for it to thrive. If you omit the specialist lighting or the correct substrate, setups etc then your pet will not live very long. Also many dealers will sell you the wrong type of equipment just to make a sale. Never ever keep a tortoise in a tank it needs roomy properly set up accomodation, with the correct uvb lighting, basking lights. Make sure you have done lots of research before you even consider keeping one of these creatures, you owe it to them.
Take care
