who keeps model horses here?
I can't afford to have my own horse but would love an Arab or Lusitano so I collect models instead.

I'm currently making a website for them and some of the models can be seen here under My models. http://www.pyroport.com/modelhorses/

All my kids did Model horses in 4-H.

I think we still have a few around. I have a very good friend who is VERY into model showing. Takes them everywhere. They actually have shows for the Model horses.

They are cheaper to maintain and a whole lot easier to get to a show than the real thing <G>

We had a 4-Her who painted model horese to look like all the horse we have had. I'm not sure how many of those are left. but they won a lot a t the Modle shows .

What's 4-H?
We have live model shows here but there all too far away from me :( There all near London - no good if you at the other side of the UK!

4-H is groups that get together with a common interest.

In the 4-H groups that learn about horses there are clinics, shows, learning sessions. The material is obtained through the local extention office -- they are where you go for advice on gardening, soil, conservation, animals -- all kinds of things.

4-H tries to provide information to people about almost anything by having adults guide children through .

I took my group to lots of different breed shows and clinics so they would learn about all types of horse things not just ONE thing ( as pony club does)

4-H also puts on model horse shows, real horse shows, judging clinics, hippology ( general horse knowlegde) and horse bowl --

Hope this helps anyone elce help me out here <G>

The only model horses I've got are "Grand Champion"s. They were really popular when I was a little girl and I prefered them over Breyer (stupid me) just because they had real hair for tails. I've still got all of them and intend to keep them for my children. I remember spending hours playing with them under my desk which became my "barn" and all of the soap opera drama that happened between the black stallion and all the mares.

I wish I had gotten some breyer horses back then, they'd be collector items now. Such is life :bunny:

I have 13 Grand Champions
5 Breyers
4 Magpie Models
7 julips
5 unkown
And millions of flockies!
Are you in the UK or USA?

Grand Champions are great for customizing - Breyers are harder and I've sliced a few fingers just trying to customize 1 Breyer.

I'm in the USA. I go to Toys R Us once in a while to see if they have any grand champions and rarely see any anymore. I've looked on the internet and found a few.

Yeah Toys R Us have stopped stocking them since a German Company bought GC out.

There is a hobby store in the UK that sells them - mail order only.

Yeah Breyer Fest.
I'd love to go but it's £70 for a passport then around a grand for flights never mind hotels and entry into the park. :bawling:

Oh well.
I now have loads more magpies I'm customizing and will be getting more Breyers soon.

That's where customizing comes in!

I buy loads from boot sales and do them up like new.

I collect the Breyer horses. I have the standard models, the stablemates models, and the collector's item models. I know, I'm probably too old to be still collecting them, I'm 25, but I still enjoy it! :D

Your not too old.

I know people in there 50s that still collect, customize and show horses.

Apart from Arabs what else do you collect?

Just added some more to my site.

I'm getting a new TB mare this summer to hopefully breed to one of my arabian stallions. I think that anglo-arabs make nice jumping and dressage horses. Not too tall, not too small.

I suppose I'm not too old then! :D To be collecting model horses, that is.

Hehe.

I like Anglo-Arabs (prefer Arabs and TBs pure tho)
Mainly with AAs you get the best of both breeds.
