Please help, I have a baby hamster on the loose in my apartment. It is a 5 week old silky/teddy bear. It has been loose for at least 2 days. I have set out food, water and a bucket trap but haven't seen any sign of it. How long can they survive? I have lost hope of finding it at this point. Any other ideas of how to find it? I have looked under and in all furniture, torn closets and rooms apart, can't find it anywhere. Thanks.

Do u have a cat that could have gotten to your hamster before you did? Also look in warm dark places like in your closet where the water heater is.

make sure you dont panic. i did and whent into like a nervous breakdown( lol my sister was yelling "its only as hamster!) make surew to check all the cozy warm spots and leave ur hakmsters cage on the floor. thats what i fdid to catch my hamster( he jst crawled in to drink). make sure taht you leave alot of food and more water out cause they can get dehaydryted really easily if tehre runnin around

Thank God no we don't own a cat lol. The warm place we would have would be under the stove and I have looked there several times. The good news this evening is though that there is evidence that it is still alive. There is a little piece of seed in the water that I put out so it got food from somewhere (probably the trap and got back out lol) and drank some water. I am really begining to think this thing is smarter then I am LOL.

Wish I could leave the cage on the floor, but with Mama, Daddy and 13 other little ones we don't have a cage to spare lol. Maybe it will get tired of the adventure soon and come out to see us lol.

i hope you have seperated you hammys and do what i did when we had a loose hammy. make a slide that they can't get up and line the rooms with newspaper which is scrunched up so you'll hear her make noises if she runs about

i read somewhere that if you get a shoebox fill it with bedding and food and stuff, and put peanut butter in the box, (they supposevly like the smell of peanut butter lol) and stack some books up next to it so the hamster can climb in it, all you have to do is go to sleep and hopefully your hamster will be in the box lol good luck!

I will try the shoe box idea tonight, thanks! At this point I am willing to try anything lol. We did have a sighting last night but he was to quick and my daughter couldn't catch him lol. Papa hamster's name is Inu Yasha. My daughter likes the cartoon, Inu Yasha is a Japanamation cartoon.

I was thinkin you should make something it wouldnt be able to get out of. I really cant think of anything that could be used in the house though. Maybe you could put a pan on the ground with food in it, with something leading to get in the pan but no way to get out. Did that make sence?

That is a good idea and yes it makes a lot of sense :). Right now we are using an empty deep cool whip container with a tube from the cage leading up to it. Hasn't decided that it looks good yet though lol.
