Well I cleaned Mischiefs cage today. I put in a few more climbing places and hiding areas. So what do you all think (espeically those with more knowledge on hamsters).

The "cage" thats in her cage, lol(and it's meant for hamsters/gerbs/mice!)

Wow lucky little ham she is. One thing I would suggest, does the bin have a lid? The cage in her cage leads at least to the top, I'd be worried about her climbing out. I left the lids off mine for a while, I figured there was no way they could get up the sides. Well that changed when I woke up one morning to Zen sitting on me! She had climbed from on top of her igloo house to on the top the water bottle and out. These guys are extreme escape artists. ;)

of course it has a top, it was only off to take pics ;) It's not clear! ;)

I think so to, sad thing is, it was a "hamster cage", it is SOOOOOOO tiny, you can see her in the "wire cage", and how big it is compared to her......tiny! lol.

Is she actually litter box trained?

she pee's in one cornor, does that count?
lol :)

I'm attempting to get her "poo box trained" lol

lol, it took my hammy Smidget 3 months to figure out that she shouldn't pee and store food in the same corner. It was really gross!!!:D

I was just wondering. Bear bear pees in one corner and usually poos in her igloo. I was thinking of trying to get her litter box trained and was wondering if it worked for you.

I think the only way you can litter box train a hammy is if you just put the box in the corner of the cage they already go in. They're not like bunnies who prefer a designated spot. But you could try it.:)

oo i like it. your cage is so creative. and your hammy gets more space than some little hammies could even dream of.

I really like it... It's so nice and big, like a hamster palace!

And, because it was mentioned, hamster potty training tips:
First, wait to see what corner your hamster usually "goes" in. Then, put some urine-soaked litter in the potty and put the potty in that corner. If your lucky, that should work.

Yep Lime, that sounds like the way to potty train:)

And Jiffykat I LOVE your new avatar!!!

wow very nice but newspaper ink is posinous to hamsters, you really should take it out.Tolit paper is much better btw.

08-01-05, 07:40 PM 08-01-05
it's soy based ink. It's fine.

and she refuses other bedding now. Will ONLY use newspaper. All toilet paper, or paper towels is shoved into a cornor, and not used, for anything at all.

Savy- Thanks, I love Calvin & Hobbes.

Dash- Many news papers are printed with soy ink now a days.

Saphire- Just curious, why the cage inside the cage?

Most hamsters like to go in one corner.Put the tolit in the corner they normally go in and then put sum soiled bedding,or poo in the tolit and they should get the idea.

just so she will have something to climb on, more to play in, etc..etc...:)

I never knew about soy ink, that's so cool!!! How do you find out if a newspaper uses it or not???

you have to ask :)

besides most papers are soy based ink nowdays, it's just safer, no one wants their baby to poison themselves by putting a mouthfull of the sunday paper in their mouth.

That's a good point:) I just didn't know if it was printed on the paper or something. Thanks for the help!!!:D

I like how your cage is made out of a big bin. It gives the hamster a lot of room to explore. I would love to do that with my mice but I have a cat that would kill to eat those mice lol so I keep the cage locked all the time.

o0sapphirerat0o

well this cage IS locked (there is a lid it was just off to take pics), and the cats aren't allowed in there.

Yup, it's a christmas tree storage bin.

Yup, another hamster, don't know the colors yet, I'm assuming it's a "normal golden" syrian. But I haven't seen them yet.

Cool:) I would do the christmas tree bins too but I don't have the space, so I stack 56 qt. bins instead:) I also find that 70qt bins are high enough to be good as one per hammy if you can put upper levels in it like I did.:) Hoping to get pics. soon!!! As soon as my uncle fixes our stupid computer!!!:Dlol

cool, I don't think they make them anymore though, I did a search and came up with nothing (or just the bags and ornament containers).

Oh, that's too bad.:) At least you got one before they stopped making them. What are you going to put the new Ham in???

I got them a few years ago, I have another one, but we will end up putting it in the 90qt sterilite bin until older.

Nice set up I like it a lot. Bins are awesome! I like the wires around the top (good idea). Lots of room and lots for your hammy to do in there.

Thanks, it was a pain! We almost cracked it badly more than a few times, it's just because of the type of plastic it was.

She seems happy, instead of building a nest in her hide-a-way, or box, she built it right behind her wheel...lol. Guess when she runs till she's tired she won't have far to go to go "home" lol.
