Since Hazel died Nutmeg seems a bit out of sorts. I haven't seen her run on the wheel once, and her and Haze used to both run at the same time every day. She's also barely been up, I see her get some food and go back to her nest. It just doesn't seem like normal behaviour for her.

So, has anyone sucessfully introduced two same sex dwarfs? I was thinking of going to rescue an older dwarf but the humane society doesn't have any at the moment, and it might be better to introduce a young one anyway.

I was going to try the split cage method, like with gerbils. Anyone had this work sucesssfully? Would it be a good idea to try to introduce her, or should I just spend lots of time with her?

She really does seem lonely. They had dominace squabbles all the time, but they always used to sleep cuddled up with each other.

I am very sorry about Hazel! I know how it feels to loose a hampster. Well i would spend more time with her. and i would also try getting another hampster to hang out with her, it could help, but it could also make her even more upset about the situation and she possibly could completely ignore a new hampster. But for sure i would spend more time with her and let her have alot of time to run around in her ball. Well, i hope everthings good!

how old is nutmeg? it could be that she is just getting really old. hamsters will act differently as they get older and they will become less and less active. i dont really think it would work out too well to try and introduce a new hamster at this point but if you really want to then it couldnt hurt to try i guess. the only thing is that you might have to do the same thing all over again soon. if you do try it i would get a young one so it doesnt create an endless cycle.
