Cloth + Tape + Hamster =

Hello everyone, I have been looking at some cages and set ups online. I have seen a lot of cages with cloth and tape in them. Mostly for rats but don't rats chew on everything just like hamsters. I also saw I piece of fleece or some material like that in a hammy cage. I saw cloth hammocks and taped houses, toys, tubes etc. I thought hamster cannot have cloth or tape b/c they will chew it, and might digest it.

Well here is a pic of carboard houses all tapped up. I would love to do something like that. Is there a certain tape? Or is it Ok to use tape? Anyone have something tapped in there cage? Is it ok to use tape?

As long as the tape isn't stringy and those houses are play houses, they aren't in the cage at all times. Tape can be very deadly so if used, it's best to use in a supervised area (like Dapper Rat's play area).

Yeah, they usually don't eat the tape. My haster chews plastic in her bin (grrr) but she spits it out, I find plastic bits all over the place, lol.:) Gotta love them!!!:D

yup, my hamsters has this little house that she sleeps in, and the roof keeps coming off. So, i tape it. My hamsters chews on it, but spits it out like 7gamesavvy said :D

material can become impacted in the hamsters pouches, so it can be very dangerous.

I don't recommend duct tape however because the glue can be really toxic. Try masking tape or that clear packing tape stuff or electrical tape:)

why not show or explain a setup and mabey we can help you figure out a diff way.

You could also try suction cups, velcro and a few other "rigs"

I am actually almost finsihed with his home remodeling. I will post pics soon. I wanted to make a second level with his wheel on it and have his hut/house thing underneath the second level. I used pvc, no tapes.
