I don't know if you all saw my last post but it was about my female hamster which I thought was pregnant because of the way she has been acting. Well she still acts weird, this morning she had a nest built with shavings by where she eats. When I was holding her tonight, this white substance dripped out of her private, quite a lot actually. If anyone can help me please give me some facts on this cause it is really making me curious. It has been about 36 days since I have got her and that is why I figured she still couldn't be prenant, but she sure is acting like it.

Mostly, I would just like to know why there would be this white/clear substance coming from the hamsters private, I've never seen it happen before and it makes me curious. Whoever knows what's going on, please notify me. Thx.

Yes, i think u should definately take her to a vet. I have had 5 hamsters, 2 girls, and this has never happened before in my experience, its not normal. You need to find a vet that takes small animals, which can sometimes be hard, I had to make 10 calls before i found one.( or maybe u already have one:) ) I also just read in my hamster book, that the period of gestation in hamsters is only 16-18 days, so you are right in saying that after 36 days she shouldn't be pregnant still..My hamsters makes nests and takes the food to it, which is what they do.. but the white subtance is not normal..Is she peeing normal? Im wondering if it could be a bladder infection of somesort. It just doesnt sound right and i would recommend taking her asap, since things seemed strange since u got her.Let me know what happens and if u take her to the vet

OK, it's been a bit since i had hamsters, but i think i remembered females get a kinda white, smelly goopy discharge from there at some point or another in their breeding cycle. I agree though- off to the vets is the safest thing...she is most likely not pregnant, hammys love 'housekeeping' and building nests. go, find out what the problem is and fix it, or go and put your mind at ease. good luck- let us know how she turns out! Oh yeah, there is a big difference between vets who 'will' take small aniamls (as in 'what the heck, I've never treated a hamster before, let's see what it's about) and a vet who 'does' treat small animals (as in 'here comes hamster #4 this week- I wonder if it'll be another UTI?).
