I got my hamster a harness and leash today adn she loves it! She runs everywhere now, chasing the cats and up and down the furniture! It's a real paint o get on her becuase she won't stop wiggling, but she took off immediately, not minding it at all. Finally! a new exercise for her! And maybe more sleep at night for me!

Don't use them - they can brake a hamsters back.

i heard their fine as long as you dont use them really often for long periods of time, dont put them on tight( like u cant with some animals) and make sure never to pull tehm back! that is probably teh leading cause of hmsters breaking their backs.

It's made by HAGEN- I bought it from PETdiscounters.com
I think it is perfectly safe- it does not fit tightly- she could easily get out of it if she stopped running around long enough to try- I let her go where she wants, never tug it- sometimes I just tie the handle in one place and let her run back and forth as far as she can go(while I'm watching, of course).

no, no, no....
harneses can lead to broken lungs and backs. the hamster is MUCH safer in the wheel. she may get to the poisons, like wallpaper, tarnish, or even the cat, as you said. no, no, no.
and also, "petDISCOUNTS" doesnt soun like quality products. leashes and harneses are for ferrits and dogs. i dont recomend you dont, but its your choise.

thank you for the warning. I will definitely be very careful.
but as for PETdiscounters- that is merely the online retailer. THe product is made by HAGEN, which makes quality small animal feeds and products for decades. PETdiscounters offers the same products as Petco or other large chains, just a little more in a kid-surviving-on-a-small-allowance's budget.

I think leashes are fine and the hamsters get to explore

i think it would be a good thing for out doors just as a ball is a good thing for indoors

I would not suggest a harness they will strangle and break bones...I had a friend that bought one and it killed the hammy, please do not use if you value your hammy's life. Get a play pen or something for it to run around in!

play pens are only safe if ur gonna sit and watch the hammy all the time there out( some ppl dont and the hammy climbs falls, dead hammy ad person)

You can use a playpen which I do sometimes..I put a wire netting over it so she will not escape! Please do not use a leash or harness

im glad someone has teh sense to do taht. if any one has a cat then make sure taht you put something over the top. tahts a must! cause not only can the hamster get out and get hurt by the cat but the cat can jump in and then the hamster has no where to run.
