Hello everyone I just finished remodeling my cage. My other cage really did not have anything for him to do except the wheel. Now he has a ramp, second level and little hiding areas. I could not use any wires, hamster tubes, tapes, or sharp objects b/c my hamster is hairless (which kind of stinks :( ) So I worked on this most of the day...I now hate pvc...lol

Please tell me what you think thanks.

Here is my old cage set up:

Here is the new set up:

Here is underneath the second level, where he has his house/hut and pvc tunnel

Hairless, your cage kicks butt!!!!:D It's really creative epsecially since your ham has "special needs" lol. I was thinking of making jungle gym type thing for my hams out of PVC for their out of cage play time.:)

The size bin is like 90 or 116 quarts, it is the biggest one at wal mart and no I do not have a lid on it.

I need to find one that has tall sides like yours.

Try wal mart, it is made by Rubbermaid

Yeah, the 73 qt. Sterilite (got it at Walmart) also has really high sides, I got three floors out of mine because most of the space goes up instead of being on the bottom.:)

I know, I know!!!lol As soon as my mom gets a hold of my uncle (computer wiz) and gets him to fix the problem, my pics. will be up. I have an old digital camera that has since been replaced with an updated model and my computer (XP) won't accept the old technology and I really don't want to spend $200 on a new camera.

But as soon as I can get stuff working I will have a HUGE thread with pics. of my hams and their cages.:D

Today at Fleet Farm I bought a plastic tub that is like 106 qt. It has nice high sides and is long and has a lid that snaps on tight. Now I've just got to fix it up for Skittles. That will be my weekend project. :D I think I will feel safer with a lid that snaps on. No more escapes!! My little fuzzy jail bird. :)

You did a really great job on the cage. It's people like you who make me smile inside out. Simply because you love your animal enough to take the time to make him a special little place of his own, where he can be happy and enjoy life. So good for you! You and your hammie are very cool!

Yeah, the snap tops for the bins is good. My cages have wire mesh in the top and my hams swing across them like Tarzan hams:)

What would be the best way to cut the plastic? Last time I used a wood burning pen like tool to melt the plastic, then with the plastic hot, used a razor blade to cut through. It did work pretty well, I burned my fingers a few times.
Just wondering how others do it?

I've been thinking that I'm going to use the bin as his "play ground". Skittles will have 2 cages linked together. That is where he will be during the day or when I'm not home. Then in the evening & night for play time, I will put him in the bin. In the morning, I'll put him back into his other cage. I want Skittles to be happy at home so that he will not have a reason to want to leave it. :D

I used and exact-o knife and a saudering (sp?) iron.

I used a sabor saw, it cuts really easily but first you have to drill a hole as a starting point and it takes some practices to get it to cut circles and such:)

Whatever ya do, make sure ya got the right tools. My first bin I tried to cut up and I cut it up, it was trash. I refuse to cut into them anymore, its to hard for me, but easy to alot of others. :p

My Dad makes hand made signs, that's the only way I got access to the tools.

Oh, guess what Hairless??? My Mom is going to talk to my uncle about the camera/computer situation tonight. YAY!!! Pics. coming soon:D
