Hi!

We have recently moved and found that our 12 month old cattle dog X is leaving brown spots on the lawn!!

We are trying to train her to use a certain spot in the yard but whenever we take her to the 'spot' she just stands there and looks at us. We wait about 15 minutes and then when we head back inside she will go on her way back into the house (still on the grass...just not on her 'spot').

We have tried house-breaking pads on the 'spot' but they haven't worked. Any other ideas?

I have also heard that tomato juice may stop the brown spots all together...

Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas.

Well, we had the same problem. We had our grass proffessionally done this year and the lawn people said the only thing to do is spray it down with water right away.

Good luck!

Thanks Brandy

We have been watering the spots down (and this works)...although this is going to prove impossible once our dog is outside unsupervised while we are at work!!

Any other hints?

I've been told that agricultural gypsum will take care of the problem. Any horticulture or larger gardening equipment store will have it. Sprinkle it on the lawn and it will neutralize the acidity in the dogs urine, thus keeping the grass from getting brown. Any bare spots you've got, use the gypsum and reseed on those spots.
