Hello,

I got 2 hamsters from Petco two months ago, supposed to be both males. But recently, I checked the hamsters cage and found lots of babies in the plastic house cover with bedding. I wanted to clean the cage, but decided not to touch it. What should I do?
my 3rd times having hamsters, and first time encountering this problem. I have checked a few websites, after comparing those pictures on the web, the babies appeared to be 3-5 days old, I have already separated the male from the cage. I just learned about how the mother will eat their youngs, especially if it was her first time or due to lack of nutrients.

Anyway, I can't really count the babies now, because they are all in the house covered with bedding. I just hoped they all will be fine, and none get eaten. I have feed the mother egg; WHITE only, and bread soaked with milk. Please let me know of any other ways to help boost her protein and milk, so the babies will not be eaten. Also, when should I separated the mother from the babies, their ages should be 3-5 days old.

Thanks ahead,
Teresa

dont touch the babys. this could lead to the babys getting eaten. second, dont change the bedding. you can change the pee corner but wait a while for the rest.

im glad you did your reaseach.

u did fine so far :)

egg is a good choice, and u can also try feeding her with rice. these r supplements to her usual diet of dried mix, so remember to provide plenty of food and water

u can also give her a tissue, for her to tear them up into bedding material.

it should be fine if the mom is constantly looking after the babies..

u should separate them when the babies r weaned, when they r about 3-4 weeks old

good luck :D
