Okay it did some research on hamsters and it came down to these 2. at first i wanted to get a syrain but then i read it grows from 15-18 cms longs, so i was like no i can't imagine having a per that big[ i'm new to this pet stuff] then i read winter whites grow to 10 cm, so i'm like yeah that sounds more like it.:agree: , but then i read that syrains loved to be played with especialy with children, and i read that winter whites just loved being played with.:apart: soo i'm starting o think, so then i read that they r slow.if they ome out of my hands and try to run would i catch them...i'm 13, can someone answer my questions and requests.

1) Can i have a link to compare the 2 in picture (to compare sizes). information, etc.

2) can someone tell me if they get out of my hold(syrain and w whiite) how fast they are.

4) give me ur opinion

(side note: i really don't want a syrain cause of the size):bat:

i personally would recommend syrians because if they slip from your hands they dont go run as fast as the winter whites and because of its big size they are easier to hold both kinds are great its really up to you hope i helped a litto bit! good luck with ur future hamster! o yea sry i dont have pictures of any hamstrs

okay a new choice which would be better a winter white or a dwarf hamster? cause syrain will just get to big for a cage when i get it and i will be too fraked out to pick it up when it gets bigger, but can someone still answer my questions in the first post now including a dwarf hamster

Well,I have a syrian, she's full grown'has had over eight babies, and is living comfortably in a regular cage. But to answer your queistion I would choose the Winter White because Dwarf hasters are kinda mean and not very playful. Some dwarf are nice though so if you come across one you really like then get it. It's your choice, you know how you feel about it.:agree:

Winter Whites are highly sociable and MUST live in pairs or groups - there far too small and fast for a first timer and normally nip when in heat.

Syrians however are solitary animals and will kill another so these MUST be housed alone. Syrians are just the right size and speed for a new commer.

Syrians differ greatly in size, pet hamsters are normally half the size of show ones.

I have 1 Syrian that is full grown but only the size of a 5 week old. On the other hand I have 1 Syrian that is far too big to use tubes etc.

I find tanks are best (10 gallons +) as most cages are too small and expensive.

Thanxs, the thing that made me start think was that winter whites live 1.5-2 years, so that's really short. But syrains would get to big..hmm maybe if someone can should me a poicture of their fully grown syrain and someelse would show me one of a winter white?thanxs

is their a way for the pet shop to tell how big it would get (assuming i get it 4-5 weeks old)

Nope - it all depends on the genes.

Here is where you can get all info about each species.

Syrain: Lives longer, large hamster, ( i dunno about the esaping) always look for a way out.

This is really hard to decide, somebody help. i need winter white and syrain owners here. :bawling:

come on i need some pictres comparing the 2, please can somebody show a picture of their syrain in it's cage and then another of a winter white in it's cage.

wow.. this is exactly the question i wanted to ask, and i am glad that i read what was typed here. i never knew that winter white had to be in pairs or group.

my quesition is, if i get two male winter white, will they fight? cos i dun wish to have too many babies till i cant handle.

how abt two female? are they more fierce than the male?

dwarf hamsters can usually be kept in groups of their own kind, it is not a must

two males will have a higher chance of them living together, as compared to two females

since u already have a rough estimate of ww and syrian's size, u should be able to gauge the difference...

'cos i don't think people would take a picture of a winter white and syrian side by side(for accurate comparison) to show their difference
