I had my riding lesson yesterday and since my ussual horse was being ridden same time I had to ride another one, I only rode that horse once, and she's pretty calm& sweet, but guess what happened? we went pasture riding I was the last one(4th)in line, when we started trotting, suddenly this horse takes off with the speed of light and starts galloping, of course it was unexpected, so I flew out of the saddle landing on my back....yeah, it did hurt, still does my back, neck and my buttocks still ache big time!!LOL
so the teacher runs over and asks if I'm ok, I'm like "yeah i'm fine", i was just kinda in shock, lol, never would expect Brandy to do that, she's a sweety....lol.. Oh well my first fall, congragulate me, lol, weird thing was that I was just talking about it with my friend the day before, how freaked I would be if I fell... and then I did, funny...
Ok I just wanted to share my story!!:agree:

Congrats! One of many. No matter how much you ride you'll always fall at one point or another. Just keep your confidence up and realize that you WILL fall and usually theres not much you can do about it (like your story there). Some instructors will have their students practice falling safely off of a horse and what to not do (grab with the reins... etc).
I know I always felt better after a fall for some reason, it took a bit to get my confidence back but when it did I was stronger all the more!
Remember to praise your horse if it stands still and waits for you or doesnt run if you've got a foot in the stirrup.

yeah, when the horse started running the teacher yelled"pull back, pull back!!", but I was to shocked to react that fast, so I fell off, later I was so afraid to do canter on that same horse, but strangely enough she has great canter, its like riding on a sofa!!lol

In my barn you would now owe a dollar to the pot <G>
Congrat. you are now offically a REAL rider.
I happen to be one of those persons who teaches how to fall off. If you know how you aren't as afraid when it happens and happen it does.
Glad you weren't hurt ( other than your pride). If you put a bit more weight in your tush you might not go off next time. ( now i have a rather large rear end and it has prevented me from going down many a time ).. When i trail ride i tend not to pay attention to my horse and so i put my weight where my brain is offten claimed to be and if he moves quickly i have a few secs to collect myself and not fall.

ya the first time i fell off i was so happy lol i felt like a great rider oddly enough it wasn't really my fault. the saddle wasnt girthed up enough and it slipped over my pony's neck! good thing i was in the grass. it felt like a cushion. that was a good fall. recently my pony buck me off down hill and i landed on my belly ouchy i think i hit my ribs but i'm ok man i was so lucky i landed on drive way!!!gtg

When she was little her grandpa had over 475 head of horses and she always rode and broke them for him. One day she was out riding and her uncle drove up. He followed her around and after awhile blew the horn. It scared the horse and she went off because it side-jumped. He did the 6 times cause she just keep getting back on. That's my mom. I'm way to much like her.lol
