Hello. I have two and I totally love the breed but I do not recommend them for everyone.

Dobes are loyal, loving, very smart but they can also be protective. I personally don't think it is a good idea to let a doberman run loose on a farm unsupervised only because they will make their own bounderies and may threaten anyone that crosses into "their" territory. Because they are a breed that sometimes has an unkind reputation, the mailman may be more apt to over react to a dobe charging him then say a golden retriever. Also, they are good with "their" small animals but may threaten any that cross onto their turf.

Dobes need leadership and firm but kind handling. Training is a must. If you can do this with your dog and you can be aware of where he/she is at all times, then a dobe might be for you.

They are a great breed. I dont have one but my firend does.

Check out a dobie rescue and go meet some and get some information from them.

if your seriously consideering it then always check rescue first. If you must choose on a breeder take the time and do it right.

Good luck
