I am thinking about adopting a kitten from a home-run shelter. They have kittens varying in age from 5 days to 6 months.
I'd like to do anything I can by adopting a younger one, but I'm not sure of the responsibility that goes into it because I do work.
Any helpful sites or tips from experience?
I've held/played with kittens a few days old when I volunteered at a shelter when I was younger, but did nothing like feeding.

Unless you are willing to feed a kitten every 2 hours (even during the night), why not adopt a kitten that is already weaned and that as spent some times with other cats.
It will have much less behavioral problems, and much less of a chance of being litter trained.
Why not adopt an older kitten, but of a color that is much less in demand. Black, or mostly black cats have a harder time being adopted.

I would not take in one that is less then 5 weeks old. With them being younger then that they could have some problems that would make you upset.
Plus with at least 5 weeks you have one that is socialized with other cats and can be alone for awhile.

Do you think you could be a foster home for the shelter?
Young babies are a lot of work. Between keeping them clean and fed and weaning them and all that. If you want to adopt a campanioion pet I suggest sticking with above 8 weeks old. They still need guidness and training but it's more enjoyable then work. ;)
If at all possible consider adopting 2 kittens. Or even better and adult and a youngster or something.
Kittens are very cute. They grow up fast and do need lots of attention and need to learn kitty manners.
I would talk with the shelter also before deciding. You could offer to be a foster home if you think you can give them up when adopted.

Because you work, if I were you, I would get 2 kittens to begin with. They could play and learn together. It would be awesome if they could grow up together!!!

I think getting two older kittens around 6-8 wks old would be your best bet since you work. I have hand raised a litter of 2 kittens b4 and it was a lot of work. I had to take the kittens to work with me so I could care for them the way they needed to be cared for. Now I have the most amazing bond with these 2 lil guys because they know me as mommy but it was a ton of work. I have one 4 year old cat and her and I have a strong bond as well

Two is always better, just watch out, my 2 turned into 5...LOL! Anyway from what I hear and have experienced kittens in pairs or more tend to be less destructive because they dont get bored as easily.
