is there a diease or illness that can cause a gerbil to refuse food and water. then makes them jump before it kills them?

i don't know that much about gerbil illness but maybe it was a seizure?

how long did the gerbil go without food and water? did it still chew cardboard and other things? Are you sure its teeth weren't over grown and causing it to be unable to eat?

I know sa many gerbils as i use to have what it might be but i didnt see your gerbils so i cant be for sure. When my gerbils were about to die they would start having siezures and it made them jump and shake thats thats the only thing i can think of.

I think these are all very good questions, that if answered we may be able to figure out what it is that made your gerbils ill.

her teeth weren't over grown. no she didn't have seizures. only 2 days. but she did have some water. and about 10mL of baby food. she did chew on paper rolls.

Well it sounds she was ok before the 'jump" so i would say it was a major Seizure or stroke. :( That's what it sounds like at least.

could it have happened to my other gerbil. she died about 2 months ago. samething happened to her.

It could have i guess. Were they related, and where did you get them from? Oh and how old were they when this happend?

I'm asking about ages and relation just because this could have to do with inbreeding and such.
How far apart did this happen to the gerbils? Something like this 'could' be related to being poisoned too, but i'd go more towards the bad breeding.
Did you use any cleaners in there tank maybe?

no cleaners. Sandy was 2 1/2. and Dusty was 2 years. no their not related. Petsmart is where i got them from. Dusty i actually adopted.
