I just found out that my younger brother's gerbil had a tumor. I know that there are operations that can take the tumor off, but how much do they cost?

You will have to call around, different Vets will charge different amounts, plus some won't even do an operation on a small rodent.
When you call around to ask, make sure the Vet has allready preformed a surgery on a rodent, so they know what they are doing. You'd hate your gerbil to be a test subject.
How old is the gerbil?
Some can live with the tumor quite fine for the rest of there life, though some tumors grow so large the gerbils will try and chew it off, and that's when it will have to be removed otherwise the gerbil could get a nasty infection and die.

I have two gerbils with tumors and no vets that will remove them. One of them has had the tumor for nearly a year and the other has had the tumor for about 6 months. Both are acting perfectly fine otherwise. (One is 4.5 years old, other is 3 years old)

I paid around $200 to get my gerbil's scent gland tumor removed, but $65 was for the test to see if the tumor was cancerous, so the surgery itself was about $135. Vet charges for gerbils in my area are expensive. They can vary widely, depending on where you live. As Andrea said, the best thing would be to call around to see which vets would do the surgery and how much it would cost.

Just make sure that the vet you use has experience with small rodents. Don't go for the "yeah sure whatever, I'll give it a go". Ask around, contact a local gerbil society, etc.
