Baytril

Hey guys,

My ratties are sneezing and on Baytril again. For some reason I have a tough time giving this particular med to the rats. I assume it is it's bad taste. Do any of you have any special ways of giving this med besides the scruff? I feel like scruffing usually ends up wasting medicine with much of it on my carpet as they rub there faces into it. :smash:

If the it's the straight up Batril then yeah it tastes pretty bad, some vets will mix it with flavored syrup to make the taste better. Have you tried mixing the meds in food? Some good food you can try are baby food, syrup, bread, etc you can try different things to see which ones your little ones like the most.

You can also try, honey and yogurt. I know some people who will mix it in with pina colada.

Bread doesn't work for me unless I sugar it up.

hmmm.... my rats ar sneezing aswell, i got them the same stuff. baytril! lol. well my rats LOVE the stuff, they scrambel over and try ta grab the bottel away from me to get more. i dotn know.... mine take it willingly! lucky me, hope you find an easyer way!!!

Rats that willingly eat Baytril? Oh you are so lucky and I am very jealous of you. I have two that are on it for life and boy has it made me a creative person. Good luck with your ratties and their sneezing, I hope they get better.

my vet puts cherry flavor in it because she says baytril tastes gross. you MUST give them their doses and not miss one. if they are not taking it, you should ask your vet if she can flavor it. also, i had a rat who would not eat it even if it tasted like cherries. i had a 1.0cc syringe that i would fill with her dose, and force the end of it into her mouth and squirt the meds. she would fight me and all of my fingers were cut from forcing her little mouth open but it worked. all my other rats think it's dessert.
