My baby, Halo has diarrhea. It started last night, and I called the vet this morning, they recommended I give her Kaopectate. 1 ml for each 20 lbs of weight. She weighs less than 5 lb. She had nothing unusual to eat, and the only thing different was I gave her a bath. We don't have any Kaopectate in the house and wonder if anyone out there has an idea of what else I might give her? We would both appreciate any help you can offer. She is totally miserable, I can tell.

Good! You did post here, too. Go back to Pet Talk and see what I wrote. Also, diarrhea in a dog that small can be very devistating because of dehydration. Use Pedialyte instead of water so she gets some of the liquids and electrolytes back into her system. If this goes on any longer than tomorrow, you might want to take her to a vet. Terrible time for her to get sick, poor baby. Vets go on holiday, too, I'm afraid.

Thanks for your response. We thought about the vet and the holiday, so we took her in this morning. He gave us some Propulsid to give her and told us to get some liquid Imodium AD (sp). We had a terrible time getting them down her, but sure hope it works soon. He said she is not dehydrated yet, but to limit the amount of water she drinks, as she vomited this morning. She does not have a temperature, so that is good news. He wants a stool sample when they become a little more firm. (She pooped on his floor while we were there.) They kept it to see if they could find anything. Thanks again for your reply. You know how we are about our fur kids.

Hi, I know this is a late response but in case it happens again to anyones dog, I heard that giving a dog canned pumpkin, real pumpkin not the pumpkin pie stuff is supposed to help with diarrhea. In reverse it is also supposed to help with constipation

When my lab had diarrhea, the vet told me to give her either pedialyte or gatorade. They are better than water if your dog gets dehydrated, something about they have electrolytes. He also said that if she had diarrhea for more than 24 hours to bring her in. Hope this helps.
