Hi,

What are some dog food brands that most of you will recommend?

I am considering switching dog food.

Thanks a lot. http://petshub.com/ubb/wink.gif

I have a chihuahua. It is about 2 years of age.

Any dog foods which you can recommend?
What dog do you have?

Nice knowing you. Thanks.

Remember when switching foods, to do it slowly. Continue using the dog food your dog is currently eating and slowly start to mix in the new food. Do this over a period of 2-3 weeks. If your dog is eating it's current food in the morning and then the new food at night without mixing, it could cause diarrhea. It's easier on the dog's digestive system if you switch slowly.

I use Diamond Maintenance for two dogs. I like the food, the dog's like the food and they have nice shiny coats.

Good luck in finding a new food.

Hi, Me again,

Just wanted to ask you a couple more questions. Why do you want to change your dogs food and what are you feeding him now? How is his skin and coat?

Hope to talk to you soon! http://petshub.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hi

As what the previous poster has asked, why do you need to change the brand of food? IS there any skin problem associated problem? If there is no problem, I urge you not to change the brand of food. Perhaps you can try cooking some chicken, carrot rice(no salt)plus some olive oil or some vegetable cooking oil. Cheap and easy to prepare.

The reason is i think he is sick of his own food. Though his coat and skin are in good condition, but it seems like he is tired and sick of his food.

I am giving him Science Diet.

Please advise. Thanks.

Personally, I would not change a good thing. If your dog has a good skin and coat and he does well on Science Diet (good premium food) then I would not change his food. If you do you could change his eating habbit to being very fussy. And then you will never find a food he likes. Agree with the above, boil some chicken, rice and carrots. They are all good for him!

Neither I nor my vet consider Science Diet a good food. I would switch to a really premium dog food over the course of a few weeks by mixing the new with some of the old. I feed Old Mother Hubbard Super5 Wellness Senior mix. It is a holistic human grade food. Other good foods are Canidae, California Naturals. There are probably some others also.

There are a lot of excellent pemium foods out there. It depends on the age of your dog, the weights and how active he it. I feed my dog Nutro. Excellent food, lots of meat/rice and sunflower oil for his coat. Also has shark cartidge in it as well. My dog does excellent on this food.

Definately change over by gradually mixing new & old. 1new/4old parts, 1/3, 1/2, 1/1 with maybe 4 days between. Like others said to do it too sudden can give them diahrea or just upset them stomachs.
I find the Nutro, Neura Wellness Super 5 Mix, and Sensible Choice very decent products. I think we humans could live on the Wellness.
Reading a book about "Foods Pets Die For" will shed a brite lite on all of us as to what some of the foods contain. It can really get disgusting.
Best to you and your pup-pups? Corrine
