What do you guys think of Petsmart? I just got one very near me a few months ago. Because of one of my hamsters died a week ago, :( :( :( I might get one there. I went there just a few weeks ago. I looked at the hamsters there, and I was surprized! They looked super!!! They were very, cute, heathly and not over crowded! I looked at other pets like fish and cats, they looked good too for a pet store, but those hamsters impressed me! Are they getting better, or is it just me? I don't know anything about the employees YET I'm going tonight to check them out.

not to seem so pro-Petsmart...but i worked there for a bit over the summer....and i know that they separate the male and female small animals in separate stores....and if there are any signs of sickness, we separate the animals...most of the people who i talked to who came into the store said petsmart was much nicer than petco (there was a petco right across the street too)....they also don't sell feeders (well, not with small animals...)...petsmart's not bad! lol, but i do know people have had bad experiences with them...i guess it varies with the store/employees...good luck with getting a new hamster and sry to hear about your old one....

If I have to shop at a pet store that sells animals, it's always Petsmart. They treat their animals the best of the ones around here. However, they also still buy from mills and support the milling industry. Gizmo, my guinea pig, was purchased from there with a mild URI which has blown to horrific proportions. We're $500 into treatment and still not over it. And the conditions at the store were pretty good, it was obviously brought in from wherever they were bred at.

Both Petsmart's & Petco's in my area is always very nice & clean. I like the Petsmart a little more, I find that they have a better selection of products. Last week I was at Petco checking out the rodent cages. In two of the male syrian hamster cages there was 1 dead hamster in each cage. I said something to one of the employees, and they cleaned up the cages immediately. They didn't just take out the dead, they cleaned everything. I watched.

I think the Petsmart near me is very good. They have the males separate from the females (actually I've never seen any females for sale), and the cages look purdy clean and it isn't overcrowded. I'm not a pro at seeing which petstores are good and which are bad but I almost always buy my food and stuff from petsmart ( I think it's closer than the others too)

I went there last night as I had said. I was VERY impressed!! Those employees know what they are doing!! The one that help me started to telling me all this stuff about hamsters (it was all true:) ) And after I finished a few of her sentences she found out I knew what I was doing. :)
When I first got there, I was not so sure I wanted any of the hamsters there, they were all very cute and healthy, but I just didn't know... Once I got help, I started picking and holding some of the hamsters in the first cage. Most of them were pretty freaked out! They would squeek when I held them! I put my hand in the cage for a while, and a very cute black eyed white came up and sniffed my hand, then chomped on it!! It wouldn't stop bleeding for a while. I felt sorry handing a very bloodly napkin to the employee. I was almost ready to thorw in the towel, but I went to the next cage anyway.
I stuck my hand in and one hopped right on it, I took her out and held her. Then I put her back to look at more. She hopped on my hand again! The employee said,"I think she likes you!" I smiled but just kept looking at more. (I guess she reminded me of Hudson's peronality too much) My brother came up and started holding hamsters too. We stood right next to each other, since the cage opens from the side she hopped on my brother's arm and came over to my hand. That was it! I took her home right then and there!! The employee was amazed! She said, "I see people come in here all the time to pick out pets, but never have I seen a pet pick out them!"
She is adjusting well I will get her out tonight and post pics! She is a short haired .... I can't remember what they call her color.. looks kinda like a golden with no black, or a very dark cream or somehting... I think they call it cinnamin or something...? She has a white belly, and just a hint of red in her eyes, if it hits the light then and only then does it look red. Anymore red and I don't if I would of gotten her- oh yeah I would have what am I talking anout!!! she CHOSE me!!
See ya tonight,
Kaitlin
