Hi everybody,

I am new to the gerbil forums, and thought i would go ahead and introduce mine!

Skipper: Is a brown gerbil with a blaze and a white tip on his tail. I have had him for 4 years, and enjoy every minute of him! He is currently in a huge cage with his full brother, Scooter.

Scooter: Is a black gerbil with the same markings as his full brother, Skipper. I have also had him for 4 wonderful years. He loves to roll around in his green roll-around ball. His is currently in a huge cage with Skipper.

Spud III: Is a light brown gerbil with red eyes. He also loves to roll around in Skipper's boll-around ball. He is currently in a small cage by himself. He hates his wheel that's in his cage. Not once have I ever seen him use it, but whe you put him in the roll-around ball he goes to town! hehe

I have 4 roll-around balls that I have colleted over the years, and I often have races with the hamsters agianst the gerbils and the living room floor. My son and I made 2 little tracks that are 3 foot long. We put one hamster in one roll-around ball, and then put a gerbil in another roll around ball. We set them each in their own tracks and and whoever gets to the end of the track fors wins. So far we have had 12 wins for the gerbil side, and 7 wins for the hamster side. We have great fun doing this every once in a while!

Lisa:D

P.S. If you will go to the hamster forum, you will see a subject titled" Hi! I would like to introduce my hamsters! Please read!" That tells all about my hamsters.

Thanks!

I didn't say hi as I didn't want to get into a debate. Yhe debate is that you use balls for gerbils.

Please stop - they can brake a gerbils back and damage tails. I also hope you don't have a wheel for them or anything plastic.

What's the matter with the plastic roll-about balls?!? I bought then at the PetsMart store, and the litle animnal person said that they were fine for gerbils and hamsters! Please explain why they are harmful...

Gerbils can't bend there backs like hamsters can and end up severaly damaging them and the tails. Some bracke the backs and others sever the spinal cord - not nice. Not only that but gerbils hop not run.

Pet shops will say anything if it means you'll buy stuff from them.
They only care about money and not the animals wellbeing.

I work along side the NGS and have my own gerbil club and run a rescue.
Pet shops will tell you anything to get you to buy stuff.
Please loose the balls and let them run naturally.
