Hi, I just got an adorable male teddy bear hamster named Sanchez for my birthday on Saturday, and as of tuesday morning, I noticed that he has a thick yellow discharge (pinkeye?) that is forcing his eyes shut. He is the sweetest little guy, still has nice temperment and eveything, but he has not been active at all since I got him (he hasn't run much on his cage or stayed awake very long). I think he's about a month old, he's been eating and drinking, I heard I should boil water, add a little boric acid and gently swab his eyes with a cotton ball. I also heard a mixture of milk and honey might help, do any fellow hamster lovers have any suggestions? Thanks. :o

Yes the eye swabbing is good! it has worked for me. I don't think I've heard of the milk and honey mixture you speak of... Hamsters are active during the night. If he is up and active then you should worry. But if all he does is sleep, he will slowly stop eating and drink mostly likly and soon die. So if it is that concerning you might want to take him to a vet, but if he is active when he is supposed to be, I think he will get over it.:)
