hey guys leave her alone! i happen to live very near to where this is going on! im not promoting this but it is not a really big thing its not like there gonna sell it to a fighter and why dont you get as upset when they do it to a horse or a cow or goats or sheep?? hmmm???
clearblu
10-08-05, 12:50 PM 10-08-05
Um because nobody has every posted horses/cows/goats/or sheep. You shouldnt raffle off any animal because the owner may not be prepared for it. How much do you want to bet that when whoever wins that puppy finds out that they did, they arent going to want it any more. Or, they will dump it in a backyard somewhere with no food or water. I think you need to take a reality check reodentz. The chances of that pup going to a reliable home are 1 in a million.

Your right they aren't selling it they are giving it to anyone who has 10$ to enter and win this raffel. I cant believe an animal lover is saying this isnt a big deal. i hope you dont have dogs or other pets or else you might just raffel them off because its no big deal!

They have raffled animals off for years. Maybe it will be taken care of. I think I'd like a buy a ticket cuz I know I would take care of it and nothings better than getting something really cheap that is normally hundreds of dollars.

MJenkins - it is sentiments like that that make them money - as more people think oh its cheap why not have a go and they get more tickets sold. If they didn't sell as many tickets they couldn't afford to raffle the puppy off and have to sell it properly. I know you would offer it a great home but buying a ticket is supporting what they are doing.

Here's a nice little story:
Mr and Miss Chav were having a nice White Lightning infused day with their two little brats, Chardonnay and <insert male chav name, because I really can't think of one>.
So, walking drunkenly through the sordid streets of SE London, they came across a puppy raffle.
"Mooooooooom I waaaant a puuuuuuppy" screamed Chardonnay, mildly ruffling her scraped-back hair.
Her mother spoke. "Shut it you little s**t, I'm not havin' some fuu******g brass mo'grel in my fla'.
But Chardonnay threatened to burn her hoop earrings, and eventually her mother gave in. After all, there was no chance of winning the raffle.
Mr Chav mugged an old lady in order to obtain the money, and they entered the raffle.
For the purposes of this example, let's assume they won. Did the pitbull go to a nice, loving, family enviroment. No, it went to be tortured by two little brats and a chavettes string of one-night-stand participants, before being used as a fighting dog, in order to pay for drugs/alcohol/fake burberry.
That's why puppy raffles are a bad idea.

One thing I can't believe is that someone wants to take home a pit from such a shoddy breeder. If they're willing to raffle off a dog to deity only knows who, too young to be seperated from it's mother, I'm sure they don't put a whole lot of attention into the temperments of their animals. That's a dog attack waiting to happen.

You must be young and naive.
There are millions of dogs dying in shelters every year. To use a dog in a raffle adds insult to injury. Have you ever seen or held a shelter dog as it is killed? I have and I tell you it is NOT fun.
If this puppy ends up with a pit fighter it will live a torturous, short life. If it ends up with someone that is not prepared for the special needs of this breed, it most likely will end up in a shelter. VERY FEW pitbulls make it out of a shelter alive.
In a perfect world this dog will end up in a wonderful home for the rest of it's life. Unfortunately we do not live in a perfect world.

By the way people BUY...nevermind get them in a raffle.... purebred dogs all the time and the end up in shelters and some ARE abused and starved. I know this for a FACT and can get you proof if you would like??????

Um maybe because it is only 10 dollars. If you want to use a dog in a raffle, fine, but make sure that they have to really pay to enter. Like $200-$300 dollar tickets. That way, the people who enter REALLY want the dog. That is why Rodentz. Dont you tell all these smart people to shut up, when in reality you are the one who is wrong. and we didnt even SAY anything about your dog. Where did that come from?

You pose a good question. Why do so many people acquire animals only to abuse and neglect them? That's a very troubling question, and yet it happens all the time. People pay thousands of dollars for a "Purebred" something or other only to put it in the backyard and ignore it.
IIRC, the "Retail Sale of Dogs and Cats" act should have been passed by now which BANS selling animals younger than 8 weeks in that state.

go spend all your time and money helping people out instead of sitting on the computer yelling at people about what they do with their life. it is THEIR LIFE! go help the katrina victims and leave people alone. if people are going to neglect an animal, let them, then they will end up in jail. isnt that what the laws are for, protecting them? so if this isnt illegal, there there isnt anything wrong with it. spend your time on things that are worth it.

what does a hurricane have to do with a puppy raffle??
Norman

and what they are doing isnt that horrible
the raffle aside they are letting the puppy leave it's mother (if in fact they have the breeding bitch) at 5 weeks when it shoudn't really leave until 8 weeks for health and socialisation reasons.
Is it only one puppy or a whole litter being raffled as individual pups?
The raffle means the breeder (losest possible sense of the word) makes more money per pup - there was someone in the UK who raffled his 1/2 million pound home for £10 a ticket and the lucky winner got the house which was great but the owner actually make nearly 2 million out of ticket money. Fair enough that was bricks this is an animals life. What if someone buys a ticket thinking it is great idea at the time, wins and then decides actually they don't want a dog - another one for the shelters I suppose.
Pit fighters can put on an act to look like responsible pet owners if it means they get a cheap dog to throw into the arena.

I think a backyard breeder like you has a lot of GALL to tell anyone else to help out. Not only have I helped out Hurricane Katrina victims, but I work with animals rescue, and have fosters in my house right now. That's right, I work hard to help place the animals that people like you create. So until you're not a part of the problem, please stop telling other people to fix it, you hypocrite.

What we are dealing with on this thread is many immature people who are now becoming irate because they cannot retract previous statements that they have made and now regret.
Yes rodentz i said i hope you dont have animals, maybe you should check the thread and take some time in your responses instead of flying off the handle screaming randomly. If you support something like this i would SEVERLY hope you dont have animals because who knows what you might elect to do with them.

You actually BELIEVE animal abusers go to jail? Ha! Hardly! 99% end up getting a $200 fine, and go out and get animals to do it again! The MAXIMUM sentence for torturing an animal is something like 2 years in jail, if they even get sent!
I do have a point in life thank you, helping animals. Unlike you, go breed your poor bitch over and over, for money. I'd hate to think of what would happen when she can't breed anymore, what will it be, abandoned on a dark road or the shelter?
Stupid backyard breeder, just like the people raffling the poor FIVE week old pup.
I've stayed out of this, because I can't stand idiots. Those people should be shot on sight.

She's getting old, but she JUST had a litter? Or you're looking for a rottie stud to breed her again? Good, she's spoiled, what about her pups, grand pups, great grandpups and so on? Can you guarantee everry SINGLE one of them permanant homes? No, you can't. Which is why breeding should be left to good breeders.

Hey,
Excuse me for wanting to get my beloved dog bred. She is an extremely emotional, charismatic rotweiller who means more to me than most humans. You, as an example, are a rude, obnoxious, slightly irrational borderline insulting person who would benefit the rest of the dogloving community by keeping you opinon to yourself. Thank you......

Just to show puppys don't always end up in the best home, even though the owners seemed like wonderful people :
At the shelter where I volunteer once a week we got a 3 1/2 month old rottie puppy that was dropped off because he was bought for the kids and the kids got bored with him. Registered and everything. Nice puppy. A family came in looking for a dog, and ended up taking the rottie home. Seemed like a great family, and seemed like they would be a great owner for the rottie. I even knew where the people lived which was in a housing development behind my fish store. The first week with the puppy looked good, their boy would always be out in the yard playing with him. They named him Max. Now, 2 months later he is no longer and inside dog, getting excersise out in the yard. Max is now chained to a tree with no dog box, day and night. He is lucky to get food and water. I have to stand outside on the back dock everyday and see this rottie pup chained to the tree. Rain or shine. When I called the local animal control, twice, they said they would be out, they never came. I asked the father why Max wasn't allowed in or even given a dog box, and he just looked at me like I was retarted. :(
That pit bull pup will probably end up the same way.
As long as people buy the tickets and keep supporting the raffles, they will keep going on. The BYB is happy because he got his money. The people holding the raffle is happy becuase they got their money. They don't give a crap about the pit bull or who it goes too... all about money to them. I agree with clearblu, the tickets should be $200-300 dollars for people to really want the dog...
