Hi everyone! My Cashew suffered from wet tail last Friday, and I just took him to the vet yesterday. He seems to be doing well (bottom completely clear and clean), but I was wondering if any of y'all had any experience with hamsters recovering from wet tail?

I noticed he hasn't had any droppings since we went to the vet (it's been at least 24 hours), and I'm sure he's eating. Is it possible for him to get constipated from the medication because my Cashew's wet tail experience wasn't as severe as some I've read on the net!

Thanks
Mindy

I don't think I ever had it, and I have had dozens of Syrians. It is manifested by SEVERE diarrhea. never had THAT.

I have had a few minor cases of slight diarrhea, one was caused I think by too much lettuce, but I got Baytril from a vet anyway. Another got the Dri Tail medication from the store, and is fine. Another quickly died from something showing very slight diarrhea despite Dri Tail.

So, you never know with them.

Thanks! He actually pooped today (it's the normal, pellet-y kind) So I'm incredibly relieved. Phew. I just hope that my Cashew gets 100% better. He's a little fighter! :o)

Thanks! It's a play on words -- my last name is pronounced "shoe" (plus he likes to chew on things) :o)
