Hello, when I handle my gerbils, they always seem to want to jump from one hand to the other constantly. Is this normal? Just curious.

Yup, sounds pretty normal gerbil behaviour to me. :)

When they're outside their aquarium they just can't seem to stay still - if they're on me they'll be running from one shoulder to the other, to my arms, down my back, anywhere they can go. If they're on the floor... Exploring time! *Happy excited gerbils Weeee!* :D

They're active little things, aren't they? ;)

Yup, gerbils love to run!
Endless amounts of energy, then suddenly they fall asleep for an hour, then they're back scrabbling in the walls of the Dunas / Tanks begging to be let out again! :D
I love playing with them in that way - the endless staircase of hands!
Exercises them, plus, whichever way they turn the stairs are still there! :O
Scary! :D

Yes, but personalities vary a lot. Some always are very squirmy, others less so, and a small number have been calm in my palm. A few even climbed up to my shoulder and sat there observing the world.

I think it also has to do with age.
I've noticed most of my gerbils as they get older become more calm, and will sit instead of hyper mood.
Now my 2 boys that are 2 years old, they are still super hyper LOL...
