poor unloved gerbil!

The pet store i go to has this cute gerbil...i dunno how old but hes full grown i do know that. And hes in one if those cages that says free gerbil with purchase of cage! Well the poor gerb has been there ever since i got cujo....and that was what...months ago!?! Anyways im trying to convince my husband that we should take him. Poor gerbil needs love and no one has taken him. They alll go for the baby gerbils they have. I really hope i can buy him i feel so bad for him! I will tell you all if i end up getting him. But wouldnt you do the same if you were me? lol! :p

im back lol! I went with my friend and i bought the gerbil, hes not mean at all, at least from what i see of him. Hes so cute, but i gotta clean out the cage cuz it stinks so bad. Should i try to put him in with cujo and archie? I mean not now but when i get a tank topper so its bigger, or do you think they will fight? Cuz hes by himself right now but i dunno. Anyways, i still gotta tell my husband....oh and no hes not really an animal lover.

You mean just put him in with the other males? unless one of them is really young it wont work. Maybe you can split cage them? i'm sure you have already heard of that but i can give you more info if you need it!?

i dunno if i will put him in with cujo and archie or not, but he will be by himself then cuz im not getting anymore animals lol. I have heard of the split cage thing....but i dunno if it will work, i guess its worth a try, but not yet i wanan get to know the little guy first. Oh and i dunno what to name him, hes a very odd color, when u first look at him he looks albino but he has some reddish tint to his fur plus awhite dot on his head....if that makes any sense lol! Hes not completly fullgrown tho lol!

oh i forgot to say this lol. When i got cujo he was by himself and i felt bad so i got archie, i just put archie in the cage and they hit it off right away lol. Cujo loves archie i think, they get along wonderfully lol. But i guess its always a try to get the new one in with them too lol

I have fallen in love with this gerb. He is so sweet. I was holding him in my hand and he was cuddling and fell asleep, he loves to rub noses too lol. Doesnt bite or nip, hes just so loveable! Well guess thats it hope you all like the pics :)

well i will say this gerbils take longer to tame then rats! But they can be just as sweet! I use to breed gerbils and theres a big difference between the ones i bought at the pet store and the babies i sold. I use to think hamsters were evil, i think it all depends on the animal, cuz yeah i have had some evil gerbils and 1 evil ham lol! But gerbils make great pets you just gotta take more time to play with them and tame them down :)

yeah i love rodents they are my favorite type of animal, but rats and mice are my faves but i love hammies and gerbs too! Oh i was thinking if cujo and archie dont wanna accept cheddar i was gonna put my 2 mice *moo moo and blaze* in the plastic cage hes in right now and get cheddar a friend and put them in the aquarium...i dunno i gotta wait cuz moo moo is pregnant lol. I actually hope cujo and archie like him but like i said i gotta wait til i get a tank topper lol! DON"T introduce them with out a slit cage!!! Its very important.
Your very lucky your first 2 gerbils you did that too didn't kill/hurt eachother. Introducing Cheddar to your other 2 would be very bad. Because the other 2 is a bonded pair. So you will have to get cheddar a new friend. And if you can't then you might want to find him a new home, as you know how social gerbils are.
So don't introduce them, inless you want, probably cheddar, to end up very badly beaten up or dead.

ok thanks for the advice but hun i do know what im doing :) I'm not trying to be mean but i have owned gerbils alot longer then any other animal so i do know how do to it :) I didnt plan on introducing him to cujo and archie it was just a thought, cuz i use to get my gerbils to get along all the time...and i actually hardly ever used the split cage method i just took my time and no one got hurt or killed but i actually want another gerbil *theres this black gerb at the pet store* and the gerbils are half off right now....but i have no money right now i am actually telling everyone to get me gift cards for the pet store i go to for christmas*pet supplies plus* Anyways like i said im not trying to be mean but i do know what im doing but thanks for trying to help ;) oh and gerbillover yup i love all my animals rats are number 1 with me tho lol. But all my animals cuddle, and lick and are really sweet! :) ;)

Ive introduced 1 gerbil to a clan of 3 others before, and everything worked out fine. It just depends on the gerbils personality. :)

yup i totally agree. I actually let archie sniff cheddar.....cheddar doesnt like him lol. No one got hurt or anything but i just thought that was funny, i wonder if cheddar is a loner! I know in the past i have had loners or even certain gerbils *2 brothers* declan and i had to keep them separate but all my loners were so sweet lol. I didnt have many but the few i did have were actually the sweetest lol! I dunno i just got the little guy yesterday so its so soon to tell. And if he wants to be by himself thats fine with me. No offense leah but even if hes by himself im gonna keep him lol! But like i said i will try my hardest to see if he will eventually like archie and cujo lol! :) Oh and gerbil1189 I'm glad to see that its not just me who has had differnt clans of gerbils get along lol! Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesnt. But I will let you all know what happens! :) ;)

I've introduced a gerbil to a bonded pair before, without much trouble. It's not a death sentence, as some people believe.

i highly reccommend the split cage method if you are thinking of introducing them. sometimes clans work out and sometimes they don't. just because they go together to begin with means they are at more of a chance of declanning and fighting in the future.

Ok i guess, me and my sister are always really really bored at family gatherings. The adults dont want to be around us and we dont want to "babysitt" our 7 and 5 year old cousins. But the food was good:D

ok first im sorry i had to leave yesterday lol but im back hehe! Yeah when i was younger i always got kinda bored although we never went anywhere lol, see i lived with my grandparents and my grandma always cooked and all of our relatives live in new york so they couldnt come down but it was ok lol! But i loved the food, always have and always will hehe! It was just me and my husband yesterday. It was so much fun, i love cooking so much, and he was being so sweet and helped me clean up afterwords! Then we watched football *yes i love football its my favorite sport lol* And after that we went to his grandmas and saw some of his relatives it was a really good day! :

I'm jumping into this thread late, but mixing a lone gerbil with a "clan" (even if it is only two) is usually a BIG mistake. You are likely to end up with an injured or dead gerbil if you are not careful.

Usually the best match up for a male is a pup (male or female - of course in your case male so no babies).

And yes, use a split cage to introduce them:

actually i was thinking and 1 i dont have a cage big enough to put 2 gerbs in. 2 i dont really want another gerbil i have to many animals as it is. Now dont get all mean and upset at me. Cuz whoever would have gotten him anyways would have kept him by himself anyways! And I think hes ok by himself he seems really happy and hes super sweet! BUt I dunno what im doing yet! :)
