This has to be the first time I've met an expert in her early 20's. Most horse experts (if they dare want to call themselves that) are in their 50's or 60's and have spent many, many, many years training horses, breeding horses, training riders and competing. Its amazing to find an expert so young.

I agree with Magnolia Fly.
This is the first time I have seen an expert in her early 20's. Now, I would call my mother an expert on horses. She is 52-years-old, and has taught me everything I know about horses. Riding, saddle fitting, bit and bridle fitting, illnesses, caring, feeding, vetting, trailering, driving with a big trailer, and the horse stuff that most of us know. But my mother still doesn't know everything about horses. Nobody does. I am still learning, my mother is still learning, and even the most accomplished horse person out there is still learning. :agree: I would LOVE to know everything about horses, but that's impossible. I was actually doing research on a fairly new breed of horse; Akhal-Teke
They are used extensively in Dressage, Endurance, and Show-jumping. I would love to own one, but there are only a few thousand in the U.S. I bet if anyone was selling them either, they would be a pretty penny. I wish I had that kind of money , but for now I'll just have to stick with breding, selling, training, and giving riding lessons on Arabians. They are a wonderful breed. I'm not going to say anything else about them, though, because some people on here like to start fights, as we already know.
That's all for now!

hey again! its erika and i would like to say that I do not know what you would like to call an expert, but i know how to answer any questions you might have. I have been a veterinary apprentice and have done lots of things with horses. I own an arabian and he was a wreck when I bought him. He is currently doing level 3 dressage at age 9. I do not do anything with rodeo, but I do almost everything else.

Lisa,
What is the body type of the Akhal-Teke (sp?)? Where do they come from? What horses are they closely related to (Arabians, TB, WB, Barb?)? Tell us more about them, I want to hear more!
Chelsea
is there anywhere on the web that has pics of them?

Well,
Akhal-Teke's are closley related to the Arabian, and their body type looks much like the arabian, exept about 16.0 hh! They are Turkish horses, and they use them for racing in whatever country they are bred in.In the U.S., though, they are used mostly for show-jumping, dressage, and endurance. I am still working on this project, and still haven't found out what country they originated in. I will look around for websites that have pics. of them. As soon as I find one, I'll let you know what the url is. ( I think that's what url is, anyway!)

Hey akhal-teke is my fav. breed too!! I like when they have that metallic color to their coat, so pretty...
I also heard that some people dont like this type of horse for jumping, cause their back is built differently or something...
and as far as I know this horse is originated from Turkmenistan..

Well lovechick.....
They're not my favorite breed, but I would like to own one someday. My favorite breed of horse is the Arabian, and it will always be. Yes, you're right about what country they originated in. I just couldn't find it. You found some good pics., although the one paliminio is a bit skinny. Maybe he's just older. :agree:

horseluver and lovechick-
nice pictures/info. on the akhal-tekes. They are beautiful horses! the picture of the shiny chestnut with the white socks looks really familiar to me -maybe from an old breeds of horses book I have back at home. I think the reason people don't like them for jumping (if they typically move/have conformation like arabians) is because they (arabians-I have no akhal-teke experience) often don't round over the fences aka their backs are often "hollow" over the fences so they don't always jump great. However there is always an exception to the rule.

Lisa,
Have you gotten any e-mails I have sent you? I've sent you a ton and you haven't answered to any. I need your new e-mail. I'm not going to e-mail you anymore until I get your e-mail cause I have a feeling that my e-mails are going to someone else. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be mean or make you mad I just need your e-mail. I was begining to wonder if you didn't want to talk to me anymore because you haven't gave me your new e-mail. If you want just send it to me. I won't be able to send back all the messages that I have gave you. I've delated half of them. I don't remember what was in any of them. Send me an e-mail and tell me what, if any, e-mails you have gotten since your e-mail changed. I've tried to e-mail you a million times.

Lisa,
Are you mad at me or something? What did I say that made you mad if you are mad? I'm sorry for whatever I did. I didn't mean to make you mad at me if I did! What's wrong? Just let me know what is wrong. It seems like you have been ignoring me. If you think I have been ignoring you I am sorry, but none of my e-mails have gotten to you evidently. But I've tried a million times. I can't e-mail you because I don't have your new e-mail address. I have tried sending things to you many times but I guess they haven't gone through.
Sorry!

I would, but I also wouldnt dictate who could talk in my thread and what about.
PetsHub doesnt have the ability yet to instant message or private message other users. So they have to try and reach eachother in threads if e-mail is not working. That is what happened here. Dont get offended about it, there isnt a rule against it and I dont personally see a problem with it. So what if 5 messages or so were not asking you "the expert" questions?
Lighten up, we're all here to talk about what we love - animals!

Haley,
No, I am defenatly not mad at you! Mine e-mail is down, so you will have to e-mail at the old e0-mail address, bbeal@hilcozap.net. I never did get your e-mail, so maybe your's isn't working either. Well, please e-mail me at bbeal@hilcozap.net. I'm sorry I made you think I was ignoring you, cuz' I wasn't. I just couldn't get through.
Hope to hear from you soon, and I'm soooooo sorry!

this is also the first time i have seen and 'expert' so young. it is also rare to see a real horse expert claim it so boldly. i would not want to ask you a horse question, as i am a horse trainer, but i think i will ask just to see if you know your stuff:
if my horse had been on a hard ride and were sweaty, feverish, and hot, what would you suggest me to do?

I would just like to point out that all of these things can easily be looked up on the internet. I agree that I dont think she's an expert but geez, I really doubt she's going to answer at this point because I think she took alot of offense to all of our comments. If she does I'd be interested, I guess we'll see huh?

Akhal Tekes are one of the only hot blood breeds, and their body type resembles thoroughbred. Except they are alot thinner, almost annorexic looking. They have a mysterious metallic sheen to their coat that looks like they are made of gold. literally. they have to have mutton fat in their diet. they are rare but beautiful breed

hey guys,
COOL IT!!!! WHAT IF SHE'S NOT AN EXPERT?? WHY DON'T YOU JUST TAKE IT IN STRIDE AND JUST GO YOUR OWN WAY?? DO YOU REALLY HAVE TO MAKE EVERYONE BELIEVE WHAT YOU BELIEVE??? SO WHAT IF SHE HAS BAD ADVICE? SHE'S NOT TAKING CARE OF YOUR HORSE, IS SHE?? DON'T YOU HAVE ANYTHING NICE TO TELL HER?? i DO- Hey Erika, do you like Shetlands? I love them! I ride a pony that is half shetland/QH. He is really cute(i think i say that too much)! Do you like fish??? I have three fish tanks.

Then again not sure if to bother as i jsut read some replies and forgot how bitch it can be to be a horse rider. A lot of horse riders are really bitchy. I spose i was lucky though i firstly helped out at a international show jumpers and it wasnt too bitchy, then any equestrian center i went to was bitchy.
I think if u have been riding all your life and as u has some sort of training i would listen to u.
