Regulations to enter animals in the U.S

Does anyone have any idea of the regulations to bring a dog (yes, Mooky again) in the U.S?. I haven't been able to find any information about it in the internet.

Maybe this may help you.

United States - Including US Virgin Islands (St. Croix, St. John, St. Thomas) and Puerto Rico

Pets taken out of the United States and returned are subject to the same requirements as those entering for the first time. For entry into the U.S., domestic dogs must be free of evidence of diseases communicable to humans when examined at the port of entry. If the animal is not in apparent good health, further examination by a licensed veterinarian may be required at the owner's expense. Dogs must be vaccinated against rabies at least 30 days before entering the United States and the rabies shot given in the last 12 months. A valid rabies vaccination certificate needs to accompany the animal. This certificate should be in English or be accompanied by a translation. It should identify the animal, the dates of vaccination and expiration, and be signed by a licensed veterinarian. If no expiration date is specified, the certificate is acceptable if the date of vaccination is no more than 12 months before the date of arrival. If the vaccination was performed less than 30 days before arrival, the animal may be admitted but must be confined at a place of the owner's choosing until at least 30 days have passed since the vaccination. Important note: Some airlines require a Certificate of Health from a veterinarian within 10 days of any travel date (traveling both to and from the U.S.). This means that U.S. residents returning to the U.S. might need to get a Certificate of Health from an international vet if you stay in the foreign country for more than 10 days.

Thank you so much for your response!, it's very, very helpful.

It doesn't seem as hard as I thought to bring my dog to the U.S. and that would make a big difference for me if I can bring him.

Basically if the dog is healthy and have all his vaccinations he shouldn't have any problem, right?.

Now, probably the next thing I have to find out is how easy (or how hard) it would be to find the apartment where they accept dogs in New Jersey. Anyone?, Any idea?.

That's amazing there are pet friendly hotels in New Jersey!. I didn't know... thank you so much for the information!.

I'm now contacting SPCA and see if they can provide me more information. If they help me with that I probably won't need to research into other organizations, let's see.

There's such a misinformation about the regulations of bringing dogs in the U.S. I have asked lots of people and they gave told me totally different references.

I think if people knew that is not that hard to bring their pets there they would abandon them less often, I think.

I e-mailed all the SPCA's in New Jersey and only got one answer, they said is better to try with the customs office (?).

So I'm going to try the longer list you sent me. I'm very exited to bring Mooky with me, basically is not that hard.

I'm just worried that we won't be able to find the appartment which accepts dogs and which is well located and not too expensive...it's a lot to ask, isn't it?.

May I ask, do you live - with your dog(s) in an appartment or in an house?. Is there anyway that I can find out how easy it is to find a pet-friendly appartment from here?

I'm pretty sure I can bring Mooky to the US except for the apartment...

My husband is going to New York in three weeks and then he will start looking for a place to live. I'm hoping he can find the place where they accept dogs, big dogs.

So now I just have to wait and maybe try to contact some real state people from here (?). I don't know...

Hi!,

This is pilieco2 again, I had to change my user name because of some problem with my password.

I'm sorry I took so long to reply but it's just that at the end we decided to leave Mooky with my family in Ecuador.

We got a really small apartment here in New York, with no valcony, no garden, and Mooky is such a bid dog. We thought it would be cruel to have him in such a small space.

Fortunately my family is taking very good care of Mooky and he's very well adapted, since they live in the same building where I used to live he still goes to the same park every day, he plays with the same dogs and has the same routine.

My mother is as spoiling to pets as I am and now she's in love with Mooky and takes him every where with her.

I'm very thankful for all the responses I got in this forum and I'm sorry that at the end I couldn't use the information you gave me.

Please let me know how your doggy is doing, I hope everything is fine!.
