Hi everyone. This is my second post here, I've been researching many animals for the past month or 2 and I'm back to concidering sugar gliders.

I have a few questions:

1) I will have guinea pigs housed in the same room, is that alright? can the cages be near each other or should they be across the room?

2) I read that they need wheels? Is that true? I so, there is a extra large confort wheel at my local pet shop, I think its for " Guinea pigs" (although guinea pigs don't use wheels).

3) Can they come outside whe nthe weather is nice if they are in my pocket, or a pouch/fanny pack?

4) What do i do for food? Is there a mix i can buy for food? And for the 75% of their diet thats fruit and veggies, how much fruit and how much veggies?

5) As for a cage, are these measurements alright? 30"wide X 18"deep X 33"high?

6) how wide appart should the bars on the cage be?

7) How much does a sugar glider usually cost (from a breeder)?

8) Does a bite usually hurt more or less than a guinea pig bite? (just curious :D )

9) Will me and the suggie form a stong bond with each other?

10) I go to school everyday from 9:00am - 3:40pm every day. I figured because they are nocturnal I'll play with them every night for at least 2 hours, and once I'm home from school I'll carry him/her around with me all day, is that a fine idea?

11) 1 more question, its kinda stupid but i'm still wondering.........Will it mind if i'm absolutly crazy about it? I know my guinea pigs get so mad at me because i always want to be with them and hold them and such, will a sugar glider mind to much if I'm totally in love?

Well thanks for your time! These are a few questions google searching couldn't answer! :D

Ok sorry, 1 more thing. I'm in junior high school, and soon to be high school, since I usually have a amount of homework, can my sugar glider just sit with me in a pouch or somthing?

Thanks

OK i have some answers:

1) I think they should be across the room, but they dont necessaraly HAVE to be.

2) Yes they need wheels, i use the comfort wheel..i think ( is it a color on the outside rim with white on the back and a yellow knob in the middle?). Most people have the wodent wheel, or the stealth wheel.

3) Personally, i dont risk it often, most of the time i have them in a zipper pouch when they go out with me, only when it is nice out though.

4)Food..... there are quite a few proven diets, you can find them on Glidercentral.net under the links page (you should register there and ask anything you need to know)I personally use BML mine love it :)

5) The bigger the better, the minimum should be 30x18x36 inches. They need room toglide and jump around. They have great cage deals on Ebay, maybe get your parents to look on there. my cages are 5' high x 3'wide x 21inches deep and 3'high x 3'wide x 18 inches deep

6)1/2 inch wide

7) A normal grey usually is between 150-200. Color variations are more.

8)HMMMM i cant really answer this one cuz my pig has never bit me, it does hurt more as they get older, and they can draw blood.

9)Bonding all depends om time and patientce. Most gliders will form wonderful bonds with their slaves, but there are those few who will not. A glider can take from a day to months to years to bond. Like i said time and patientce (and bribery lol).

10) That sounds good, as long as they have playtime every night. Tents are great ways to play and bond in a confined safe space.

11)God no, Gliders can be very affectionate. they LOVE spending time with their humans, rubbing on them and enjoying being talked to.

12)yep. A bonding pouch will work, you can stick them down your shirt or put it in your lap.

Be Sure To Read and Research ALOT before becomming a slave to the gliders.
It is very time consuming and not as easy as it seems. Alot of glider out there are homeless because of the irresponsible owner getting tired of it. You are already showing your responsibility by asking questions and obviously researching so Thank you. any more questions dont hesitate to ask.

1. I would not house your gliders near the piggies. They will stress each other out and that can make them sick.
2. they do need wheels. I recomend the stealth wheel for the gliders. It's safe and easier to clean than a woddent wheel or comfort wheel.
3. They can go outside with you, but I do recomend a bonding pouch made specificly for them with a zipper.
4. Actually, gliders need 50% protein, 25% fruits, 25% veggies. They do sell glider pellets, but these are VERY bad for gliders as they are sap suckers and extract only the liquids from their foods. I also feed the BML diet plan along with meal worms and an ocasional pinky mouse.
5.Your cage sounds fine for one glider as long as it gets alot of out of cage time. (I recomend at least 4 hours in a glider proof area such as a tent)
6.Wire spacing should be no loarger than 1/2 inch
7. A good hand tamed glider goes for $150-$250 for a grey and considerably more for a color variation
8. I've never been bitten by a pig, but glider bites can and do hurt more than any other animal I've been bitten by (rat, hampster, ferret, and prarie dog)
9.Some gliders form stronger bonds than others. It's also not uncommon to hear of a glider who just wants to be left alone.
10. Carring them around in a bonding pouch is a good idea, but playing with them in a small glider proffed area is better I've found.
11.The more love and attention you can give a glider, the better, unless you get one that wasnts nothing to do with humans. (thats why finding a great breeder is ecentual, do not buy from pet sotres or flea markets or home shows)
