*sighs* Our dog...she's done this before, with different things. We put all the presents under our Christmas tree. Both me and my sister had nice large bags of her treat bones. My sister also (stupidly) put some chocolate in each present, so she says. We went out for dinner, and came back, and right smack in the middle of the room was one of the bags was sitting there, with the dressy bag for 'wrapping' it lying in pieces around it. So, she ate my present to her, save a few, and ripped apart some of the presents with chocolate. Not to mention she went digging through the rest under the tree. She's a bad dog.

I don't know exactly how much chocolate she ate. My sister says she put like 3 pieces of chocolate and some gum in mine, and a piece of chocolate and 5 hershey kisses in the other one she ate. Plus the bag of bones.

I know she'll probably get sick (and she probably deserves it, she knows better. My mom called her and immediately she started to run to the opposite end of the house.) but I don't want her to get sick. Would this threaten her health in any way besides her getting fat?

Chocolate if eatten in large qauntities is toxic and potentially deadly to dogs. How much does she weigh? If she's a large breed dog a few pieces shouldn't hurt her. But if she's small a few pieces can be very bad. Knowing that she likes to get into things I would suggest not keeping anymore chocolate around, If your going to give chocolate, keep those presents in a place she can't get to. Keep an eye on her, vomiting, red gums, change in behavior are all symtoms of poisoning, so keep an eye out and if she displays any of these signs rush her to the vet immediately. However don't get panicked, I don't think she ate enough to cause her any harm.

Okay, thanks. She's pretty small, I dunno really, but not nearly as small as, say, a chihuahua, or a jack russell. I think she's heavy, but then again, she's the only dog I have, plus otehr smaller animals. I don't really know how much she weighs. I'll watch out for her.

Thanks again for your help.

after years of owning pets, personally I know better. I put any wrapped dog or cat toys/treats in the upper boughs of the trees so they dont get near them, and any food items are not put under the tree until xmas morning. words of wisdom for the future ;)
if your dog will eat laxative that might not be a bad idea.. vaseline does it, a small bit would get it right through I think.

Hyrdogen Peroxide works too. Just give her a little bit and she should be fine. ;)

Hmm...didn't think of that. I'll see if we have any.
