I found a pair of suggies for $75 each for the pair and I decided to get them because the guy isnt taking very good care of them. They are eatting corn, honey, and pellets and that it! I cant belive that! Anywas, I am going to be getting them tomorrow as well as a temporary cage that I am gonna buy either tonight or tomorrow its 22"w 21"deep and 26" high... this is only a temporary cage because it is on short notice. I need to know everything possible ASAP about suggies and their young. He said the sugar gliders are almost a year old and the babies should be out of the pouch in 2-4 weeks. I felt so bad for these little guys so I just had to take them so dont be mad that I didnt research as much as possible ahead of time, as most of you know I have done ALOT of research already trying to decide to get a pair. I am soooo excited. The guy said that the females tail and part of her feet are gone because they were chewed off by an aggressive glider, I felt so awful for her and had to come to their rescue. please give me all info and any links so that I can cramp as much knowledge as possible before 2pm pacific standard time. Oh yeah and can someone tell me how and when I should start looking for homes for the babies ones and how much I should sell them for, I only want the best homes so of course I will interview people and all that. Thank you so much!

I don't know a ton but I do know that you should start looking for homes if you plan to sell them. Baby joeys can run up to $200 each depending on color and such.
SunCoast Sugar Gliders (http://www.sugar-gliders.com/)
Ruth's Sugar Glider Page (http://www.skinhorse.net/gliders/)
These should help. Good luck!

I love the fact that you are responsible and did alot of research about suggars before you got one, and now you are getting some that may not be the most cuddly but you are still excited and researching about them. If only there were more true animal lovers like you out there. Just wanted to say thanks :)
PS... the move will be very stressful on the mother so you should let her settle in a little longer than you would one that isnt prego. Also remember gliders are very sensitive and the move could cause her to canniblize the joey(s) but whatever may happen you rescued them from a bad home and most likley saved their lives. Just be patient and I hope everything goes smoothly for you and your new furbutts.

thank you so much! I try my best to take care of whatever pets in need... as you can tell by my signature there have been a lot hehe. The guy told me that they are super friendly, he said the male comes right up to the cage when you open the door. He also said that he use to have 14 gliders at one point but the reason he is getting rid of them is because he broke his back and neck and has trouble getting around and he said that he cant properly care for them (which he wasnt in the first place with that awful food for a year). I will allow the female to settle into her home before I mess with her, I really want the little ones to survive. Thanks so much for all the help... at 2pm pacific standard time he should be here, I will take pics later tonight of them.

I GOT THEM!!! The female doesnt have but a numb for a tail and her left back leg is completely gone. I havent been handling them at all. I have just put them in their cage and have been leaving them alone until they settle in. They are sleeping right now. Later tonight when they are up and awake I will feed them and hold them.

AWW Poor girl. Once the joey is grown and weaned you may want to take them all in for a welness check, just to be safe. And if you notice and wierd behavior, like chewing on themselves, and injuries do not hesitate to take them in. AWW i cant wait untill i get to be a glider granny :) still got a while to wait though, my girls are only just turning 4 months. Keep us updated. I love to hear stories. Post pics when you can.
OH are they normal greys?

I HIGHLY suggest getting the male neutered ASAP and any male joeys. That way you can keep them as a family unit and wont have to worry about the joeys being sold and possible being breed. (because there are WAY WAY too many gliders in rescue homes because of people breeding and because the background of these gliders is not good, thus not good canidates for a breeding program!)

I really dont want to get my male neutered, I may just keep the offspring then.
They LOVE the BML diet, they already have lapped up a tablespoon between the two of them and its only been in there for about 3 hours. They also LOVE peas and carrots. Tomorrow I am gonna try to give them some yogurt and see if they like it. I love my suggies hehe, the male has already peed on me and when I tried to take him off my arm he just dug his claws in and held on, I dont think he wanted to go back to his cage lol. I will post pics possibly tomorrow or this coming week.

You have to have a USDA liscense to breed and sell suger gliders

Actually, you dont have to have a USDA licence unless you have 3 or more breeding females. (this includes any female animals in your houshold, not just gliders. example: If you have two unspayed cats and an uspayed dog, and one breeding pair of gliders, you must have a licence. But, if you have say two spayed cats and a spayed dog, but one pair of breeding gliders, you do NOT need a licence.)

Are you sure? Im pretty sure you need a liscense to sell ANY exotic animal, be it a sugar glider, or a lion. If you have a website that backs that up Id be very interested in learning the real law. I was told by USDA themselves that you technically even need a liscense to give away rescues. Of course we all know that sometimes what they TELL you isnt always what is written.

Never mind, I just found it, you dont need a liscense for less then three :) I find that odd though, since that rule doesnt apply to other exotics. Does anyone have a website that goes into detail on this subject? Ive been all over usda website.

You used to have to have a licence just to even give them away, but due to the popularityof gliders, and the smal number of USDA inspectors, they relaxed the law in 2004 to include them in the pocket pet classification.

Which in my opinion was a very bad idea :(

If you have 4 or more breeding female animals of a species covered under the Animal Welfare Act you are required a license.. I am USDA licensed, and if anybody is interested, I can quote the Regulation manual to help clarify this.. it can be confusing, but my dogs and such are not included in my #'s or require a license.. When you get in to cats and dogs there is a $ requirement too.. you have to make so much off of selling the litters in order to be required to have a license.. They did relax the laws quite a bit.. it's a shame.. I get a lot of gliders from people who are 'small time' breeders without a license and they bought them on impulse from a pet store or mass breeder, and they don't know what to do with them or thier joeys.. I am definately not a rescue, but have gotten many gliders because of the lack of license requirements..
