I want to cut a tree down in my yard and make it into a cat tree house in my house and put the litter box in it too so my cat has some privacy and my dogs don't eat her poo. Anybody else do this? Any other ideas? "Chibi", a kind PetsHub person posted in the dog forum a way to leave a door open to a room for the cat and not all our dogs and this is holding but the cat is a prisoner in there. When she escapes they bump her like she is a broken candy machine.

Would it be possible to add a kitty door to the room you put the litter box in? This way kitty can get in and out, but the dogs cant get to the box.

Or maybe something like this would work?

my dog also likes to eat cat litter and anything else in the litter box ,too, also she's the same size as a cat so she could fit thru anything a cat could.how big is your dog?

i simply put the litter box up high so the cats can get to it, and the dogs can't. Also, you could get one of those top entrance litter boxes...

That Petsmart seems to have a lot of great stuff. Thankyou for the link. My cat is HUGE though and my dogs are persistant and very ingenious. Especially the catahoula, though she got her head stuck in the kitty litter box door.
The bathroom door wired open a crack is still holding them off but the litterbox up out of reach sound very appealing.

In our basement we have all our outdoors winter clothes in a corner with a bench just made out of wood in a reverse L shape (Makes a box with the floor and wall to be more clear)

I then put a piece of wood at both ends and realised that I could turn the bench into a kitty bathroom. On one end, I put hindges on the wood pannel to be able to lift it to change the kitty litter and I put a kitty door right in the middle. So the cat just goes in and out and has privacy, it's out of the way and other animals can't get in it. (Like my chinchilla for a dust bath, I know, eeeew!)

Maybe this idea will spark something of your own, feel free to copy, I am just a pretty handy person and love to make stuff like that.

Thankyou Edith. I like your idea. We too have a long row of coathooks by the basement door to the garage. I've been thinking of putting a long bench below it. Your idea would be perfect. Maybe a kitty box/litter storage chest-style bench with an entrance hole in one end covered by a pleated cloth ruffle and a battery powered night light/air-freshener inside. A piano hinge on the bench seat would permit easy access for cleaning. Cushions on the top of the bench would be nice for the cat to lounge around on and for us to sit on when we take off our boots. The length of the bench would make it impossible for the dogs to get the "cat cookies" and the cat would track less of the litter around the house. Yay!

There you go, you seem to have your kitty hide-away planned out! Sounds really awesome!

For kitty sand tracking I also have another great idea. It's basically a two level litter box.
1) make a wooden box that is two stories high (90cm high, 100cm long and 40cm wide) You can chose other materials if you please, I prefered melanine wood because it was easy to clean.
2) You will have to make this kitty litter box in two seperate piece in order to be able to clean the kitty litter.
3) The bottom level has to be high enough for the cat to do it's business comfortably. The dimensions should be about 50cm high, 100cm long and 40cm wide. This is where you are going to put the kitty litter. Don't forget not to put a roof on this (the bottom of the upper level will act as the roof of this)
4) Then create a upper level with the floor made of chicken wire (support it with alot of wood to make sure it doesn't cave in). The dimensions for this second level should be around 40cm high and obviously 100cm long and 40 cm wide.
5) Ensure that the chicken wire has very small holes to ensure that your cat's paws are well supported but big enough to let the kitty litter fall through.
6) Please ensure that your cat has enough room to jump or climb from level one to level two. This means that you will have to make the floor of the upper level shorter. I left 40cm long, 40cm wide whole but it all depends on your cat's flexibility/physical abilities. Make sure that this opening is at the back of the cage so your cat has to walk across the chicken wire.
7) Of course make a kitty door (just cut out a 30cm by 30cm hole) You can add a swingning door, air freshner, air fiter ect... These are just based on your level of handyness and preference.
8) To put them together there are many options, I used locks from my previous houses to lock them together. You know the ones you can find in bathrooms across the nation. They are cheap and sturdy and your dogs and other animals won't be able to knock the top part over to indulge in the lower level.

I guarantee that you will diminish the kitty litter tracking by 90%. It's a great idea, I had this kitty litter for a while but now they're too old to jump that much.
If anyone wants more details about this, just let me know. I love making stuff!
