I was wondering, are Syrian hamsters usually biters? My daughter has been able to hold Sweetie without getting bitten, but if my hub or I touch her, she bites us hard. My hand is covered in bite marks. I was getting her food dish and she came racing around and bit me dozens of times while I took the food bowl and water holder. It hurts like hell. She bites hard enough to break the skin. Now I don't want my daughter handling her at all if she's going to bite. My daughter hasn't held her more than a handful of times, but if Sweetie can bite hard enough to break my skin, imagine what she could do to a 2 year old. Sweetie was really nice at the store, never bit or anything, now all she does, even when I pick her up to put her in her ball thing, is bite, and bite hard. Suggestions, ideas, advice? My hamsters I had before never bit once, ever.

Forgot to ad: I didn't touch her food, I'd just washed my hands, and so I don't think I had anything on my hands that she would have smelled.

I've had her about a week now. These past day or two was when she started biting. Before that she was super sweet.

Yeah, if you didn't have anything on your hands then it couldn't be that, although, did you use soap? if it was scented, that might have been it, but I'm not sure if that would matter......and I agree, I have a 3 yr. old brother, and even though my hammie doesn't bite, I wouldn't let him hold him! Good luck and keep us posted.
