I recently moved a Syrian hamster into an aquarium and he's constantly plotting of escape. Because I didn't have a water bottle for the aquarium, I went to Petco and purchased one yesterday, but the only one they had was a glass tube water bottle for the aquarium. I didn't really think (at the time) that the hamster would be constantly gnawing at the glass feeder and trying to pull the water bottle off trying to escape. So, a few minutes after attaching the new water bottle, I realized the hamster was constantly biting and gnawing at and around the glass feeder and trying to climb the water bottle. I'm not exactly sure how strong a hamsters jaw is, so I got worried and removed the bottle and replaced it with a plastic bottle with the metal feeder that I borrowed from my friend. The problem with that one was it's a bottle for the cage, so I taped it to the top side of the aqaurium. Still, the hamster is constantly gnawing at the metal and the bottom of the plastic tubing . . . It keeps at it until it manages to loosen the bottle from the masking tape and gradually spill most of the water onto the bedding . . . Basically, the plastic bottle with the metal feeder becomes drippy if it is constantly moved. And the glass one is less drippy and won't wet the bedding as easily.

I'll be gone for about two days/day and a half and won't be able to change the bedding during that period. So, right now, I'm considering changing to the glass one, but I also have to consider about the hamster breaking the glass feeder . . .

Er. Any advice?

Stick a wire to the top of a standard water bottle and hang it from the roof of the aquarium. I find if it's hanging free it's harder to chew as it's harder to grip

I consider glass tubes dangerous. I had one cracked before I stopped using them.
