Kittens? Catnip?

Is it unhealthy for kittens to have catnip? My kittens only 7 1/2 weeks old, and I dont want the Nepetalactone in the catnip to do anything weird with my kittens growth or anything. And I was just curious if its not harmful? Because it seems as if every 9/10 toys are made with catnip.. and I just want to be careful.

I'm not sure if there is an age recommendation on catnip. A quick call to the vet should answer that question.

I know that young kittens have not always developed a sense for catnip yet. And of course some cats don't care for it at all.

I always wonderd that too but my cats got into the catnip when they were 8 weeks and they were ok, they didnt like it much after that until they turned like 6 months old

Catnip is an aphrodisiac and cats should not be exposed to it until at least 6 months of age.

I was told by my vet that giving a cat under a year old catnip could cause some brain damage.

Most cats do not react to cat nip untill they are over 6 months or so.

My kitty goes crazy with catnip, and she's only about 5 months old. I'm not exactly sure, since she was a stray. I hope it's not hurting her! I would also like to know the answer to this question.... :eek:

I don't think it's hurting her. Is she spayed? Because as I said in my reply, catnip is an aphrodisiac.

That would explain it then, because she's not spayed yet. I plan to have it done next month sometime. I was wondering why she reacts to it so much, and none of my other cats ever have. Probably because I didn't give it to them until they were older, and already fixed.

Glad it's not hurting her though! :cool:
