I got a new horse this past week. He is suppose to be white, but he has not been taken care of so his coat has turned orange due to the mud. I can't bath him because it's too cold, so I was asking for help on some horse forums. One women suggest that I use dry dog shampoo. I have never heard of it but apparently it's just like regular shampoo, you just don't have to rinse it out. Has anyone used it before? It sounds like it wouldn't work very well, or that it would leave the coat oily. If you have used it, how has it worked out? Could you suggest brands, or tell me brands to stay away from? Is it just for touch ups or would it help get the mud out of my horse's coat? Do you think it would be safe to use on him? I am going to run it by my trainer first, but if you don't think it will work or won't be safe then I won't bother. Is it something I could get at the grocery store on the pet isle, or will I have to drive to PetsMart to get it? Thank you for your time and responses.

(I know this is the dog forum, but if anyone has experience with this or has suggestions feel free to tell. We will both greatly appreciate it.)

We use waterless shampoo at my vet office b/c it just isn't practically to bathe the dogs every time they have an accident. It works pretty well but just for touch ups. If the dog is really nasty, we still have to go ahead and bathe them. I can't imagine it would work too well for a dirty horse. I don't know if there are other brands out there that may be more effective but the one we use wouldn't work. We get it from a distributor but it is probably available at PetSmart if you want to try it. I don't remember ever seeing it at the grocery store...
