Hi all, I have a 12 yr old cat who about a month ago started vomiting hairballs 2-3 times per day. He used to do vomit a hairball every 2-3 weeks. I took him to the vet and they did all the tests, blood and xray and they decided to try laxative. After a few days he passed a hard stool and vomiting was reduced to 1 per day but didn't go away. I took him back to the vet and they put him on a antibiotic for 1 week. That didn't work either. Even with the laxative he doesn't pass hair in his stool, he vomits it out, I have slowed the laxative because he was starting diareha. He is an strict indoor cat, weighed 13 lbs a month ago, now about 10 lbs. I brush him every night to help with the hair, but his stomach appears to have a new sensitivty to hair that I cannot explain. I recently changed his food from science diet light dry to nutrience hairball dry. Has anyone ever heard of this condition? Any suggestions?

I would switch his diet (slowley) to a hairball diet. Have you tried any Hairball remidy pastes? I found they work well.
With the Paste and most hairball foods, they help break down the hair so it is able to be digested.

What breed is your cat?
I found the Persian formula from Royal Canin to work particularly well, my persian never gets hairballs.

Hope you find something that works well, and that your kitty is feeling better soon.

Thx for the reply and suggestions. I have tried the hairball paste and that gives him diarehea in the quantity that was being given, so I am reducing that without stopiing it - trying to find the correct balance. I will look for the persian formula food and report back. I am going to try the new science diet hairball food as well, apparently they have a new one available and my kttie has always liked science diet, ate it for most of his life. jt
