no i meen are these good there not a bad pet shop

how much would a tank / cage be for 2 dwarfs

PetLuver21257
01-01-06, 10:56 AM 01-01-06
Well, an aquarium tank would cost about $7, (this is in US money) and a screen top about $3 and clips about $2. So all together, $10-$15.

A cage like the one you showed us on another post is a perfect cage for 2 dwarves!! So that costs as much as it costs!

What type of dwarves are you getting?

phillip
01-01-06, 11:07 AM 01-01-06
i dont know prob the most common my computor is working very slow can you find that cage

how much is that in GBP £

I still don't think you have enough money to get all the basic supplies you need ... nonetheless also have money to put away for emergencies.

Ok, first how big is your syrians cage/tank?
Whats in it? Does he have a wheel? Toys?
How much $ do you have for a vets visit?

phillip
01-01-06, 12:58 PM 01-01-06
right his is

19l
10.5 w
12 tall

he has tibes ,house and wheel

i have around £35 for his vet

Leahv1
01-01-06, 01:05 PM 01-01-06
For 1, that is to small for a syrian hamster.
2 thats not that much for a vet. Vets charge alot for a visit.
I think you should stop looking for more pets and consintrate on the one you have.

phillip
01-01-06, 01:09 PM 01-01-06
i ment £55 for the vet

^ i agree. from what you have posted you did not do enough research on the one pet you do have, let alone bringing home others who will need more care and more money/supplies/etc. i know you may love hamsters and think they are cute but when you wind up with a sick animal and a vet bill which ranges in the hundreds (and, trust me, almost ever vet visit i've had in the past has cost me at LEAST $150), you'll be stuck between a rock and a hard place with an empty pocket and an animal who is dying because you cannot provide the care it needs. please, do not get any more hamsters. i love hamsters, i love a lot of animals, but i know better than to go get them because the quality of a pet's life is much more important to me than saying i have them. it's the reason i waited until i was 23 years old and home 99% of the time before i got rats. please, reconsider.

and take the money you have now to get your syrian a proper cage that is big enough for her.

PetLuver21257
01-01-06, 03:13 PM 01-01-06
Yes, I agree with dwankrista and Leahv1, you should probably just stay with the syrian you have. And just worry about caring for it, let alone buying a couple new hamsters where the one you already have isn't getting cared for that well.

What I mean is you should have a ton of money saved for a surprise vet visit, and you should make sure that a vet near you actually KNOWS how to take care of hamsters! There are not a lot of vets specialized in rodents!

And I mean do research on dwarves from other websites!! Make a sort of "plan" on WHAT to buy and WHERE to buy the supplies BEFORE buying the hamsters!!

phillip
01-02-06, 09:15 AM 01-02-06
well when can i buy 1 or 2 dwarfs. may

for one thing that link someone posted
http://www.petsathome.com/invt/14063

that cage is too small for two dwarfs. it looks fairly big on the picture but up close it's not big at all.

phillip
01-02-06, 09:45 AM 01-02-06
i saw that today

it IS big enough for 2 dwarfs

lizzykins
01-02-06, 09:52 AM 01-02-06
matter of opinion... I wouldn't put two dwarfs in that. What type of dwarfs do you want? they are small when they are babies but Russians can grow quite big.

as for pets at home, only buy from there if the staff seem knowledgeable, if they know about the animals they are selling it will probably mean they can take care of them and you will have healthier pets.

i think you should be buying a bigger cage for your syrian rather than looking into getting more pets.

01-02-06, 09:55 AM 01-02-06
Dude, stick with the one hamster you've got! You only got it a little while ago, you should still be excited about this one.. not wanting more straight away. And people are getting confused with what you're saying because of the way you talk- I can understand ya cause I come from England too but it must be really confusing to someone from a whole other country! Lol.

Anyway, why do you want to get more hamsters already? Just concentrate on your Syrian.
You can't say "that cage IS big enough for 2 dwarves" when you're being contradicted by people who have lots more experience than you do. If they say it isn't, then trust them and don't assume you know better.. cause you're a very new hamster owner!
I'm just saying.. you seem to be rushing into this whole hamster thing and jumping in at the deep end.
Chill.. and enjoy being with your current hamster.

dwankrista
01-02-06, 10:07 AM 01-02-06
yes, it seems to me that you're jumping on the "omg so cute" bandwagon. if you're getting bored with the syrian now and want new hammies already i have a feeling it will only be a matter of time before your parents are stuck cleaning cages and the hammies lose their novelty for you. the cage is NOT big enough for two dwarves, in my opinion, nor is the one you have big enough for the syrian you have. when can you buy new dwarves? the question should read, "when SHOULD i buy 2 dwarves?" the answer? not for a looooooooooooong time. the syrian you have now isn't getting the proper care or supplies it needs, so why bring home more hammies??? why not improve the quality of life the one you already have is living?

ok fine its my birthday in may should i get one then

01-02-06, 11:21 AM 01-02-06
There is no set date that it will magically be the right time for you to purchase more hamsters. You need to devote time to the hamster you have right now and prove that you are a responsible pet owner. Sometimes it may not seem like it but hamsters can be a lot of work and can be expensive. this just amplifies when you have multiple hamsters, what if more than one is sick at the same time-vet bills can get very expensive. Good pet owners only take on as many pets as they can handle and give all of the love and attention they so very much deserve to. Don't set a date and plan to get more hamsters then, just enjoy the one you have now and see what time brings for you both.

dwankrista
01-02-06, 11:32 AM 01-02-06
^ i agree. we're not telling you there's an appropriate age to get more hamsters, we're saying there is a time when you will be better prepared for hamsters and able to properly care for one. you'll be 14 on your birthday so, unless you're one of the lucky ones like so many people here whose parents help them out when need be and are willing to help with the bills and such, 14 is hardly old enough to secure a job that allows you to commit to more hammies financially. imagine if you were to bring home a pair of dwarves, by some chance one was pregnant and you didn't know, and then you wind up with, say, 10 dwarves. then, mom gets sick, so does dad, as you didn't know they have health problems when you brought them home. whatever they have transmits to the babies. you now have 10 dwarves, all ill, who need vet care, medication, and constant attention. can you do this? if you cannot afford a proper cage for one syrian, i would venture a guess that the answer is no.

for the last time, i highly suggest no more hamsters, phillip. get your syrian what it needs, look after it, and it will be a learning experience. research, research, research. you have not had one hammy long enough yet to realize how time and money consuming they can be. they are wonderful pets, rewarding critters, but need things as well. once you realize what it takes to be a hammy owner, then reconsider.

i am i cant find no more websites

animalmagic
01-02-06, 12:40 PM 01-02-06
There's sooo much information available online. Just gather up all the different info and read it. Pets Hub is a great place to learn- but rather than asking everyone the basics, read back over previous posts.. all your questions will most likely have been answered for you already!

phillip
01-02-06, 01:00 PM 01-02-06
ok i will

will may be a suitble time for dwarfs

HunnyBunnies
01-02-06, 01:03 PM 01-02-06
READ the previous posts, there is no set date that will be the right time! Any time is a suitable time for dwarves IF you are prepared. Why are you continually asking for our advice if you aren't even going to listen to it-I personally find this very frustrating and I am sure other members do as well.

dwankrista
01-02-06, 01:23 PM 01-02-06
^ i agree with you, hunnybunnies, he's just about driving me mad as i feel like i'm beating my head against a wall trying to get through to him. lol it's clear he doesn't care what we say as he'll just argue against it and think he's providing the hammies with enough care. unfortunately, in most situations like those, the animals are the ones who suffer from the sheer unwillingness to act logically and responsibly.

phillip
01-02-06, 01:25 PM 01-02-06
go on ask me questions on dwarfs ill answer them

animalmagic
01-02-06, 01:31 PM 01-02-06
Why do you keep asking stupid questions? "Will may be a suitable time for dwarves?" How are we meant to know, we don't know you and don't KNOW whether May will be a good time for you to have dwarves. But from what we've seen I think you should just stick with the one you have.. like we've said over and over!

So to answer the question.. no, May will not be a suitable time. A suitable time will be March 4th, 3009.

HunnyBunnies
01-02-06, 01:32 PM 01-02-06
Haha...glad I'm not alone guys. I am sorry if I seem to be overreacting, I just hate to see animals be hurt or mistreated in the end because of an irresponsible decision that could have been avoided.

animalmagic
01-02-06, 01:36 PM 01-02-06
But then again we do have to remember that he's only 13.. which makes me feel a bit harsh. I wonder what his parents have to say about the situation?

HunnyBunnies
01-02-06, 01:48 PM 01-02-06
True, hard to say what his parent's think of it. At least he is doing the right thing and trying to consult someone on it...if only he would take our advice seriously

dwankrista
01-02-06, 01:54 PM 01-02-06
oh, don't worry, you're not alone. i share your concern as i've been stuck with many small critters growing up that kids of friends and relatives brought home and soon lost interest in. my little spoiled cousins were famous for it. one day it was a hammy and two weeks later they saw something cuter so hammy got tossed aside and another critter moved in.

phillip, just trust us on this and LOOK AFTER THE ONE YOU HAVE. the cage is not big enough, so get a bigger one and, whether or not you can recite the gospel of dwarves over and over it does not mean you are ready for one. i can tell you almost everything there is to know about caring for all kinds of animals but i'm logical enough to know i cannot provide the care they need and thus i do not have them. i've wanted rats since i was a child and now i'm 23 and just adopted my first pair. why? because, even though i could tell you everything under the sun about them, i was not ready and i knew the rats would suffer and lack quality of life because of ME.

so, take our advice, do not get dwarves, do not get anything besides a bigger cage and more supplies for your syrian.

have fun.

01-02-06, 02:03 PM 01-02-06
I'm 13........I do my research and pay for all my mouse supplies......He can do the same.

When I wanted rats awhile ago, I spent hours researching and getting the pros and cons. When I was considering getting another mouse, I debated whether I had the time for another, or the expense if they get sick. IMO, phillip, you'd best wait a good while to get another pet. These small critters get sick fairly easily, and do you have the time to get meds and even orally give them? Stick with your syrian. JMO.

01-02-06, 02:29 PM 01-02-06
i agree, mari, and you are one of the main reasons for my post earlier when i said that there are very few 13 year olds who are responsible pet owners but there are always a few out there who are wonderful and more responsible than some adults i know. i think it's awesome that you take such great care of your meece on your own. :) the feeling i get from phillip, however, is not the same as i get from you and other responsible 13 year olds. he seems to be jumping on the "omg so cute" bandwagon and not doing the research beforehand like he should (which is evidenced in the fact that he now has a syrian we never seem to hear anything about anymore). :(

he could seriously learn a thing or two or HUNDRED from you. lol

HunnyBunnies
01-02-06, 02:34 PM 01-02-06
Mari - I agree, you deserve to be commended for being such a responsible pet owner especially at 13 years old. It is unfortunate that there aren't many many more 13 years olds as mature as you.

animalmagic
01-02-06, 03:12 PM 01-02-06
I agree! I never would have guessed in a million years that you were 13 had you not told us. You're a star!
But yeah.. that's true what dwankrista says about us not hearing anything about his syrian anymore. Makes me wonder if he ever actually got one.

MouseyMari

Thank you guys! That's very kind:-)

Remember that this guy is 13, and guys get their growth (mentally and physically) much slower than us girls:D

oh, and as for the last part, it's been my experience that guys mature veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery slooooooooooooowly. j/k (somewhat)

I am 13 too!!
And before I got my Campbell dwarf hamster Kiba, I did a TON of research on Campbell Dwarves. I literally mean a ton!! I printed out like 10 pages on them for each website I went onto, and my parents were angry for wasting ink!!

First, I got all of the supplies, (cage, bedding, wheel, food, food bowl, water bottle, house, etc...) and then I went to the petstore that I knew had a great and healthy hamster section and I bought Kiba there! She wasn't the first hamster I looked at either! I made sure that all the hamsters were healthy and nice. Then I bought her!

There is more to owning a hamster than physically having one in your room....
You haven't done any of that for the dwarves, and haven't done most of it for the syrian you have...
DON'T BUY MORE PETS FOR AWHILE!

You can't look after an animal properly without lots of research and correct supplies......But it sounds like you're still researching, so good luck!

Yeah...I'm only 14 and I have 2 gerbils, a mouse, and I am getting another hamster after kiune unfortunately passed away. I dedicate a lot of time to these animals and I know they need it. They all trust me and if I'm not going to handle them, there goin to slowly stp liking me. I think of animals as us., not a total differetn creature who doesn't deserve the attetnion, dedication, and proper treatment. So just spend time with your syrian. I've had 3 and they trust you very easily if you are willing to socialize with them. I researched a lot before I got my 2 gerbils because I knew I never owned a pet like this so I waited a month before I got those 2 and they are really good pets. Sp please...get tyour syrian a bigger cage, all the supplies, and taker him out often. Handle him well. and I even thank all thse kind people who have been helping you. They also know that animals need great lives and dedication.
Good luck.
