It's a clear plastic storage container (like those used to store clothes and other items) that has been modified into a sort of tank to house an animal in. The lid of the container has to be modified somehow to allow for ventilation or you can just omit the lid and make your own using hardware cloth. If you do a Google search you can probably find some pictures of these modified containers.

I have two of those same bins (the first clear bins from walmart) that are on the link MouseyMari gave. They work great, I have my dwarves in them and they absolutely love them. I also bought a wheel at walmart for $3 and it works great, they love to run in it.

Hey just a question regarding bins...we have a dwarf and we currently have his housing set up so that he can go from his Habitrail Mini cage through tubing to a 70L clear bin (which he loves by the way). We have a ventilated lid for the container but not well ventilated enough that we would feel safe leaving him in there with the lid on. We just assumed that he would be fine without the lid on-why is it suggested you have a lid on the bin, should we look at modifying it and placing it on the container?
We realize that a lid would be good to ensure that the hammie can't get out but we have had this setup for a while and we KNOW he can't get out, also we have no other pets so we don't have to be concerned about that aspect. Thanks for your help.

I have been trying to stay out of this but Phillip you just pushed the limit. I am not trying to be rude to you or anyone else on this forum but everyone here has been so helpful to you and I don't think Mousey Mari's comment was cocky by any means. This forum is not here to provide you with every single detail on hamster purchasing and care. I see this forum as a resource to use after you have looked on the internet and in Hamster Care books. We are here to help you fill in the gaps in the knowledge you get from other places.
On that note, people are going to be even less likely to provide you with information if you aren't appreciative and take the experts in this forum for granted. Just think before you post, be honest and do some research of your own!

Yup, I agree with HunnyBunnies. And I'd just like to add that if you're too lazy to RESEARCH yourself, then how are you not going to be too lazy to actually look after one or more hamsters yourself?

I am glad to see you found a forum that could suit your needs. I just hope you take some advice we have given you here seriously. You don't understand how big of a responsibility and potentially a cost hamsters can be and it is not fair to a poor animal to take more than you can handle. Just keep in mind what we have told you here, I would hate to see you end up in a bad situation.

yes, phillip, you may look after your hammy well in yur eyes and for the time being, but you haven't had the hammy more than week or two. it has not been long enough to judge much and you don't seem to be open to any advice that does not support what you already think/believe. i wish the best for your hammy.

I only want to say you that remember that your hammy isn't an animal in a jail, is your friend and you need to take care of him like "friends" do. I hope the best for both...
