I have always had dwarf hamsters because I intially attracted to them first. However, lately I have been falling in love with the black bear hammies when I go to the petstore. They're significantly bigger (probably 4x bigger than the dwarves) but they seem much friendlier. Anyhow, if I were to purchase one someday, what would I need to know that is different from the dwarves? I have always had the crittertrail cages for my dwarves because the tubes are big enough for them, but I would think the tubes are too small for the black bears. And I'm really not a fan of aquariums. Are there any other cage solutions to provide adequate room? If there's anything different about their care that I would need to know, please let me know. I'm not planning on getting one immediately, but maybe someday. Thanks for any info.

My first hamster was a dwarf, that I had about a year or so ago until he died. Then I got my guy now he is a black bear ham and we used the same cage, an aquarium but I did have to get another house and wheel for him because he was to big for them XD Yes they are muuuch nicer then dwarves.

There must be countless old threads on these topics. Spend a few minutes going back and looking for them. For example, we have spoken of, and posted photos of, deep 30 gallon bin habitats which seem the best solution.

Dwarfs take more time to tame, and have to be handled regularly to stay tame.

I don't have time right now to type out pages of answers to basic questions. Check the old threads first.
