Tonight at Wal-Mart, I grabbed 2 curves, one of those 3 entry things (can go in from bottom, top and a side), and something called a Habitrail outpost. I was wondering, someone mentioned that Syrians get too big for the tubes... yet my cousin has a Syrian, 2 yrs old, and he can easily get through the tubes. I'm a bit concerned Sweetie might get stuck (right now she's laying down in one of the curves). Is it possible, or are they small enough to crawl through? I saw her do a 180 in the 3 entry piece (which I used some packing tape to make the bottom piece stay on properly since only the side and top are used). If they're safe enough and big enough, I'd love to go spend a small fortune and make an amazing home for her.

The great thing about hamsters is, they kindof "compact" their bodies.

I used to have a Syrian that got through her tubes just fine and really enjoyed herself. I don't see why not. But remember that tubes always have to be cleaned because they pee in them and can get dieseases from it if they aren't cleaned regualrly ... but there are specially-made brushes for that kind of thing. :)

Good luck!

Thanks. Sweetie seems to like her outpost, she's pulled shavings (aspen I bought tonight) and some food into it, and now she's napping. :) Can't wait to find some awesome shaped tubes, Wal-Mart didn't have a huge selection, but Petland and Petsmart do. Probably this weekend I'll head to a pet store and see what I can find.

That rocks. As long as she can fit through the tubes you bought, she should be fine.

If you can, I'd like to see photos of the finished product.

we've got the habitrail mini for our dwarf hammies. They love the tubing and outpost. And it's fun to put them into different configurations. One of our hammies likes to sleep in the horizontal portion of the "3-way" tube too so I wouldn't get too worried.

Let's see if I can post a picture of my cage as I have it now...
