i just returned from visiting my aunt who is quite concerned about her cat. having spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars already on vet voisits, medications,a nd tests she is at her wits end and is watching her cat slowly decline. here's the situation:
she brought tiny, her 7 year old female, spayed kitty, to the vet with a sniffly nose and a leaky eye. the vet said tiny needed her tear ducts flushed and would be fine. anyway, the vet ran some tests and told her it was a viral infection, gave her antibiotics, and sent her on her way. tiny would not eat for weeks and aunt linda had been syringing food into the kitty who was unable to smell and would not eat. she brought her back to the vet who gave her some sort of HCl syringe type stuff to trigger appetite. while tiny has been eating a bit she is getting worse with the "infection". she had crusted blood around one nostril, a nose that is almost always draining, and when she breathes she sounds like a VERY congested human. this sound is not constant but off and on.
has anyone ever come across this? any suggestions as to what it may be? i suggested a few vets to her in the city that she's ringing up in the morning, but i wanted to get some feedback here from anyone who may have come across a problem like this and if it will get better/if it is a viral infection at all?
