THis is a school project but who knows if it can happen some day :)

Well first of alll... a little intro, Im Nam, living in Michigan. I currently learn Business Management in high school. We have a projectof opening a petshop with 1 or 2 partners.

THe location I picked is Northern Illinois, probably inside or near metropolitan areas.

We are about to sell almost all kind of pets and supplies (it is, for me a real big store)

I will give you more details on the bluprint of the project and detail description hopefully this weekend. But I wonder if you guys can help me alittle bit with working out the advantages and disadvantages of this business in such area? (You know, growth of industry in the future, community, pet club availability etc...) I am new here in the US so I dont know much about these kinds of stuff :P

Thanks for your help or any attempt to help :)

NN

Oh I forgot to tell, despite selling most kinds of pets, fish and herps are the 'strongest keys' in my shop.

Unless you get your animals from mills, you probably won't make any money off of them and will wind up losing money if you don’t neglect them (as a note, mills are very bad). The fish are a good idea, though. I know it's just for a project, but you have to think about it...maybe your store could let shelters come show off their dogs instead of selling animals? You're still not making a profit there, but it will draw in a ton of business (plus, it will save you the HUGE expense of feeding them).

Also you could think of having additional features like vets, grooming, or daycare services. I hope this helps a little :).

I was going to edit this into my message, but it said that I waited to long to edit it. SO, this was going to be in the place of the sentence that starts as, "Also you could think of having additional...etc."

The pet industry has been growing rapidly in recent years, but pet owners will only come to your shop if you have something that grabs there attention---something that is worth their time. You may think about adding additional features such as vets, grooming, daycare services, or REALLY low prices. Also, don't forget to have novelty merchandise (like dog clothes) because things like that seem to be getting more popular as well. Another note is that products that are original and cost effective usually do the best in any industry. I hope this helps a little :).

You might offer dog obedience or at least puppy school.
