For all those that saw the real world website on what steve deals with everyday this is an even stronger idea of what he sees everyday. For all those who wonder why we get on you about breeding your animals when you dont know what will happen 1,5,10 years from now this is why we say what we do and why rescuers do what we do.

The following was Steve's reply to someone trying to sell puppies on another forum.

"As I said, it's against the rules here .. as well as all other MSN sponsered sites.

That said .. let me illustrate why I disaprove of selling Rottweiler Pups on this board.

This photo was taken at my shelter, on a Monday morning. We do not run the incenerator during the weekends. Any animals put down on those days, is placed in the freezer ...

You can see the Rottweiler on the bottom of that pile. You can not see the other three that were put down that weekend. In fact .. you can't tell by that picture ... there were over 40 animals in that pile.

These were Rottweilers that no-one claimed .... all Animals that were un-claimed in a 48 hour period were in that pile.

Next picture ...

http://pic7.picturetrail.com/VOL188/1013762/1898402/23435659.jpg

I took this picture ... last week. Another Rottie waiting to be redused to ashes. Another Rottie that had to be put down for health reasons. She was four years old. Bad hips .. liver failure. She was a victom of Back Yard Breeding. Born to die at a young age. Her breeders were into it for the money ... and the extent of her problems, could have been avoided.

I see dozens of Rottweilers being put to death every month. Dozens of unwanted pets put to death every day. And I see more and more Puppies for sale every day.

Because of puppies for sale .. I don't see my job slowing down in the future. I do what I can to rescue Rotties, and place them into good families. I do this to reduse the need to breed even more reasons to go to work.

Spay and neuter ...."

This is the experience of one shelter worker who is trying to rescue and inform others. His website has been posted here before but if you would like to see that her it is.

Oh my, I don't breed any animals, but the thought of what I just read was disturbing. How can people be so ignorant about this stuff. Do they not realize that animals are living things as well. If they don't have homes lined up for the animals then why take the chance on breeding them then having to give them to a shelter not knowing if the poor little things are gonna live or die? I don't undersand why people do this. :kaioken: :redhot:

Oh my! That's a hit of reality for ya. I hate the fact that all of these irresponsible people get pets that they can't take care of. At school I hear of so many awful things that happen to animals that don't have anyone to love them. This is why me and my father very, very seldom breed our dogs.(Only when we have more than enough approved homes linned up for our babies) We don't want them to end up like those poor dogs in those pictures. That just breaks my heart. I hope that that tells people how important adopting a pet from a shelter is and also getting them spayed or neutered. Thank you for that post RottyMommy.

our drop-off lab mix had babies before we knew it. 7 of em! We played with them so they are very social, and we kept one, and my sister, and father took them to give them away. THEY WENT SO FAST! And we gave out cards on what to feed/how big they will be aprox., and our number if they somehow couldn't keep them. I think ppl should do this more often! If you really love your pets, and the puppies they have, then take charge of responsibility! Anyhow...Someone called saying she couldn't keep him, because she was moving to an appartment. Well we are taking him back, and the same day a older man called wanting one! Lol HOW perfect! There are ways to stop putting animals in shelters! And I'm just proud ours have good homes! =) Although I AM GETTING one from a breeder, we also took in a cat from the shelter, and drop-offs, and etc! :) O-yeh for those who need to know, we our getting suzie Q fixed, when allllllllll her milk dries up! =) And that story was AWFUL! :bawling: :( :bawling:

I should have known better. I only got through the first paragraph on steves page. I didn't look at the photos but I read the post.

UGH. I"m sorry but there is NO NEED to be breeding anything unless your animal is a champion. Or has some very specific quality that is necessary to survival. Too many unwanted animals out there and they didn't ask to be bred. Just to be loved and taken care of. RottyMom you HAVE to post this on the cat forum , don't you think Brandy pup?????<G>

RottyMommy,
I want to thank and commend you for posting this post, maybe this will hit home for a few people even just one on why not to breed. It's heartbreaking to see something like this but it happens every day to thousands of cats dogs and bunnies. Unfortunatly since puppy, kitten, and baby bunny season is coming up there will be even more put to sleep due to ignorance and apathy.
I hope no thinks rottymommy did this to be coldhearted she did this because she is a kind and caring individual, who realizes these horrors that are inflicted upon these gorgeous creatures.
Once again thank you for this post.
