Hello, im new to this site. I have 2 common goldfish who live in a tank together. One of them is fine but the other one has got a quite large lump on his side, I have thought this could be a tumor or something but arent too sure. He seems fine in every other aspect, he swims fine and eats fine but the lump seems to be getting a little larger.

Could anyone advise me
Thanks Sarah :angel2:

I would put him in another tank, because the lump is most likely a disease or parasite. If you want bring him to a petstore and ask them.Seperate him from the other fish so they don't get sick.

my betta had the same thing and I just kept him in the community tank and he got better.

How big is the lump? where on the fish's body is it? How long has it been there, and it it growing?

The tank size is 15 gallon, he has had it for around 3 months. It doesnt seem to be growing at present but it is the sixe of a small pea and it is located just at the bottom of his top fin, close to the join of his body and tail. Both fist are approx 1.5inch long

Your tank size will need to be upgraded soon to at least 40 gallons.
Do you know the what the water conditions are?

My immediate thought is that it could be a tumour, but this may not be the case. If it is, you'll need it to be checked out by a vet.
There are a couple of other minor problems that could cause a lump, but it's hard to say at this stage. Is there any chance of a picture?

Im in the process of buying a larger tank. I perform partial water changes every week, and a full water change every 2 weeks or sooner if needed. I use water treatments everytime i put new water into the tank, and I have a decent water filter/pump. My other fish hasnt developed any signs of a lump, so i dont think is is a disease as im sure the other fish would be the same... wouldnt it????

By water conditions I meant the ammonia/nitrite/nitrate levels...
Don't worry too much, as it sounds ok though.
Some diseases aren't contagious. What exactly does it look like?

It just looks like a fleshy lump, there is no colour distortion or anything, and the fins and tail are fine. I am trying to upload a picture but my camera is playing up. A friend has been to mine and they are sure it is a tumour, as it doesnt seem to be causing the fish any other problems. I am going to get a new tank and then have someone take a look at him i think.

I think we'll stick with tumour then. I haven't had any experience with vets and fish, but some do specialise in aquatics. Good luck finding one :)
