We have all discussed it and its not feasible space-wise at this time to get a 55 gal tank. BUT, most of the reason for getting the biggest you can is so you don't have to move them again down the line and that part doesn't bother me. So I am going to get a tank that will fit in the space we do have and that will be at least 30 gallons. This tank should buy me some more time. The best part is I can buy the tank as early as the beginning of Feb. I know its not an ideal situation but even if its only a 30, its 20 more gal than they have now. Its a start.

It should be fine. It should actually last you to the end of this year- with just the golds, you might go a bit longer, but the pleco's the main issue regarding rapid growth.

It was a little discouraging to admit we don't have the room for the bigger one but after measuring the space its nearly four feet. I think that's big enough for a 35-40 gal tank. As I said, every little bit helps. And look at it this way, I will have lots of spare tanks by the time they are grown. LOL

And spare tanks mean more fish! You can try, but you won't resist the temptation...

The space is actually 47"x15". Not bad, even a little overhang won't hurt because its the middle part of a huge hutch, the surface is the cabinet part. Half inch thick wood piece covered with formica. Dad's a carpenter, he said would put braces under if he needs to but he doesn't think it will be necessary, he does weight bearing problems for a living! Those kinds of Dads are handy for aquariums and rabbit homes. lol Anyway, I am really getting excited since this other tank is something I can do now. Feb is almost here! I hate getting paid once a month. :: grumble ::

Yay for new tanks! :)
That space should be plenty big to hold a good size tank. You're fish will be so happy :)

This talk about tank sizes reminds me of a funny goof I realized today.
Yesterday I happened to walk through the fish section of Petco and was looking at the tanks, and I noticed that their 29gal tanks looked like they were shorter than the tank I have. So today I got out a ruler and measured my tank.... and guess what I found... I thought I had a 29gal but I really have a 37gal! lol :p Turns out that the base dimentions of a 29gal and a 37gal are both 30"x12", but the 37gal is several inches taller. Man do I feel like a goof.

Still, no reason to complain!
