I got my neighbor to take my 3 comets because the 10 gallon is getting small. I was wondering what fish can permanatly live in a 10 gallon. What freshwater fish? And are there any fresh water wish that can live in a 10 gallon, that do not need a heater? What about guppies?
If there is, what are the fish needs?

Guppies need a heater. There aren't really any I can think of- white clouds need a bit more swimming room. Most coldwater fish tend to need larger tanks, apart from a few rarities.

What about a betta and 6 neon tetras? That could be pushing it. Or just the neon tetras. Even the betta by himself would be better. Maybe a group of 4 cherry barbs. All of these have to have a heater. I don't think there are many fish that can live forever without a heater in a 10gl. These are just suggestions. Definately do your own research too, which I know you will.
Do you want more than one fish in the tank or more than one variety?

Most all fish require heaters..
Bettas, barbs, cory cats, tetras & danios are a few off the top of my head that would do good in a 10gal. Snails and dwarf frogs also.
Good luck :)

Actually.. I am thinking the heater is not a problem.. So fish that need a heater should be good. I am actually looking for colorful fish that can live together. Other fish can live with bettas? I think I will do that, a betta, and do I have to get 6 neon tetras, or does it matter? 4 good?
Do you reccomendand any good sites on neon tetras and bettas?

Yep, there are quite a few fish that can live with bettas if enough space is provided. Tetras should be kept in groups of, atleast, 6, so yes it matters.

I hope this helps :). Good luck!

A betta will be fine. However, neons do like larger amounts of swimming room as well- and bettas are known to eat them occasionally.

a betta with a small group of platties or swordtails would also make a nice colorful setup.
But remember, unless you've cycled the tank beforehand, you should not add all the fish at once.

I've never had a problem keeping bettas with small fish! In a 10G I would think a betta, 6 neons, 3 ottos would be nice as long as you add them gradually and have a heater and a GOOD filtration system!

inhabitants for a tank without a heater also depend on room temp. obviously a room temp of 68F cant handle the same fish as a tank in a room with a room temp of about 74F. platies can do fine without a heater if the room temp isnt too cold. a school of neons will have enough room in a 10 gallon, as always bigger is better but that can be assumed.
